Your Character in Witness: A Bodyguard Romance is the main protagonist of the Witness: A Bodyguard Romance book.
Although her default name is "Niamh", the player can choose to name her as they wish. The player also gets to choose her witsec name with the default being "Newbury Russo". The chosen witsec last name will later be used to address her.
Appearance
Your appearance is customizable according to the player's preferences.
Personality
In general, your character is ambitious, having graduated with an MBA and climbing your way to a promotion within your company. You don't feel you have the time for a serious romantic relationship, finding "no strings attached" intimate encounters to be your norm.
By default, you prefer to be independent and don't like relying on someone else. You get antsy in close quarters and don't like being told what to do.
Background
Your character grew up affluent, as her parents had a boat and a summer home in Martha's Vineyard[1]. You can tell Marshal Keane that your parents were from old money and that "their marriage was more of a business arrangement than a loving partnership."[2] They used both you and each other in the pursuit of power and status. They were affluent enough to host the start of the social season with a garden party, and usually stuck you with a nanny or shipped you off somewhere.[3] The first time you were old enough to attend, you got drunk on mimosas --your first experience with alcohol-- and vomited on your mother's prize hydrangeas.
When you turned 21 years old, you had just graduated from college and decide to go "full-on crazy party girl" mode. You rented a party bus and you and your friends drove to Atlantic City, where you all dressed up, gambled, and hung out on the boardwalk. You only keep in contact with a few of those girls nowadays as most have moved past their "crazy single girl" phases. If you decide to share your most embarrassing story, you mention a friend's wedding where you had too much to drink. During the speeches, you talked about how marriage is a patriarchal invention designed to enslave women. You also punted the flowers away during the bouquet toss. When security tried to get you to leave, you ran away and started crawling under tables. It ended up ruining the friendship and preventing you from being invited to any more weddings.
If you decide to talk about your past romantic relationships, you tell Marshal Keane that you had fallen hard for someone you worked with when you first joined the firm. However, as you did well and started earning promotions, he/she tried to sabotage you because he/she couldn't stand that you were more successful. After that relationship failed, your career became your whole life and you had no time for relationships.[2] When you started at your firm, you were the only woman there and had to work twice as hard in order to prove yourself.
Your "cover" in the Witness Security (Witsec) Program is that you're a working-class woman who has just lost her parents. The money they left you allowed you to purchase a small house on Nantucket where you'll be working odd jobs to pay for the "contractor" (the Marshal assigned to protect you) hired to fix the place.

Relationships
Harika
Harika is your co-worker who thinks you should have a serious romantic relationship unlike the one-night stands you appear to have. When you are forced to hide in the Witness Security Program, Marshal Otto tells you that you're not allowed to tell her what is going on, to keep her safe from the perpetrators trying to find you.
Marshal Keane
You first meet Marshal Keane at a bar, afterwards deciding to go back to his/her place where you have the premium option to become intimate or just kiss. You fall asleep on Keane's bed, waking before he/she does, and leave. Outside his/her place, you hear Killian and Maeve O'Connell threaten and kill Sean Kelly, and you call the police to help.
In Chapter 2, Marshal Keane is assigned to you as the U.S. Marshal protecting you while you are in the Witness Security (Witsec) Program. He/she asks that you keep your previous history with him/her a secret or else Otto will pull him/her from the case. It is a chance for Keane to get a huge promotion, and you agree to it. His/her cover is your work exchange contractor, and he/she will be bunking on the pullout couch of your small house in Nantucket.
