Choices: Stories You Play Wiki

Your Character in The Unexpected Heiress is the main protagonist of The Unexpected Heiress book.

Although her default name is "Lillian", the player can choose to name her as they wish.

Appearance

Your character's appearance is customizable to player's preference. John notes that your "tell" is that you have a mischievous gleam in your eyes when you are excited.

Personality

Although most personality traits are determined by the player - such as being polite or flirty, practicing social graces or speaking one's mind - in general, you enjoy learning and you share that in common with your sister, Amelia. If you had had the choice, you would have continued into higher education but your family was intent on marrying you off because of your gender.

Background

You are the only living daughter of an electric power industrialist, a wealthy American magnate. When your older sister dies, you take it upon yourself to follow through in a marriage arrangement meant to benefit both families - your family's wealth for their family's titles and lands. You are expected to wed on the same day Amelia was meant to, at the end of the summer.

Relationships

Amelia Hayes

"Although Amelia and I are only half-sisters, and Amelia and my mother aren't related, we're still family. We make our own family."
—Your Character

Amelia was your older half-sister. As you reveal to the Somersets during your first dinner with them, Amelia's mother and father divorced when Amelia was a baby. Eventually, her father remarried your mother and they had you. When your mother died, he then remarried Delia, who bore him two sons. You two were six years apart in age, but thick as thieves.

You two had a tradition of throwing a coin and making a wish whenever you crossed a bridge. In Chapter 8, you are reminded of a time when she taught you how to sew a toy for your youngest brother. Before you were born she had sewed you a toy, which you affectionately named "Miss Marbles", and it was a reminder of how much she loved you. While Miss Marbles remains in New York with your family, you have the opportunity to take the bear she made for the McTavishes if you choose to.

When you finally solve her murder in Chapter 16, you take a moment for yourself and say "good bye" to her. You will now live for yourself or turn to the next page of your life.

Francis Somerset

As the only remaining unmarried female of your family, you find it your duty to assume your sister's place and become Francis Somerset's new fiancee. When you two meet, you are polite to each other. You see a flare of anger in Francis when you sit down on an ottoman, as it was the place Amelia would often sit and read. John apologizes for him, telling you that Francis has been quite scattered ever since Amelia's death.

Throughout the months that you are at Windcroft, you two become friends but nothing more. You two decide to continue a false engagement in hopes of unearthing Amelia's killer. When Delia insists that you two honor the engagement and get married as decided by her, your father, and the Somersets, you two are reluctant but decide to fulfill your duties. It is when you discover the murderer behind Amelia's death that Delia releases you from the agreement and you and Francis end your engagement.

John Somerset

John Somerset is the younger adopted brother of Francis, and one of your love interests. You meet him in Chapter 1, accidentally mistaking him for Francis. Throughout your months there, you two become friends. If you decide to pursue him romantically, you two share kisses and he asks you to marry him in Chapter 16. You can decide to wed or to get to know each other better.

Lady Gemma

Lady Gemma is a dowager duchess, cousin of the Somersets, and one of your love interests. You meet her in Chapter 2, when you dine with the viscount and viscountess. You surprise her with your honesty and forwardness, but she finds your personality refreshing. Throughout your months there, you two become friends. If you decide to pursue her romantically, you two share kisses and she asks you to marry her in Chapter 16. You can decide to wed or to get to know each other better. If you decide to wed, it is a secret symbolical wedding in the woods as you two are women and not allowed to marry inside a church.

Hugh Crawford

Hugh Crawford is one of your love interests. He is the only one of your friends who is not an aristocrat but rather your family's solicitor who knew Amelia during her time in England. He takes it upon himself to help you in your investigation and helps you track the money trail in the early chapters. Throughout your months there, you two become friends. If you decide to pursue him romantically, you two share kisses and he asks you to marry him in Chapter 16. You can decide to wed or to get to know each other better.

Aunt Maude

Maude Leighton is your stepmother's older sister. Even though you two are not blood-related, you and your sister have called her "aunt" for years and have grown fond and accustomed to her. She took you to art galleries, symphonies, plays, and also more risque parts of the city where your parents would not dare to venture. One time in the past, she took you to an art museum where the exhibit was nude portraiture. Your stepmother was not pleased.
