I've gone from waiting tables to waltzing with a prince. My life has changed too, thanks to you.
— Your Character to Liam[1]

Your Character in The Royal Romance is the main protagonist of The Royal Romance and The Royal Heir series. Although her default name is "Riley Brooks", the player can choose to name her as they wish.

Before you compete for the affection of King "Liam", it's revealed that you first started off as a waitress in New York. While working at a bar, you served Liam and his friends' table.

Appearance

Your appearance is customizable according to the player's preferences.

Personality

Throughout the story, your character is shown largely as an American stereotype in contrast to the noble ladies of the Cordonian court. While some nobles, like Olivia and Madeleine, are hardened from years at court and others, like Hana and Kiara, are endlessly refined, you are simple, direct, insanely obsessed with fancy hats, and at times overly scrappy and determined. The impression you leave on the court depends somewhat on your choices, but on a larger scale the plot will remain fixed no matter what you choose (love interests aside).

StoryLoom Description

"The main character of the series; charismatic, clever, and at times mysterious. After Riley's fateful encounter with the handsome Prince Liam, she leaves her dreary New York life behind and heads to Cordonia in pursuit of winning the prince's hand in marriage."[2]

Background

Not much is known about your history and background (as the writers have stated on numerous occasions that they leave that up to the reader). However, little tidbits of information surface during the course of the series. You have or had two parents (and at least one is your mother), one of which you considered the power parent whom you had to win over to get the other parent to give in. It was a tactic you used as a child to get candy[3]. During your youth, you played soccer and basketball[4].

You attended university[5] at least until your senior year, and have friends (not just Daniel) who have owed you favors. If you've attended operas before[6], one of your friends used to work for the Met[7] and got you in to see a couple of shows for free. You consider yourself a "New Yorker" and have never been to Chicago nor tried their famous deep dish pizza[8][9].

Relationships

Prince "Liam"

Liam is one of your love interests. You first meet while working as a waitress in a bar in New York. He often confides in you and asks you several times to spend alone time together before the Coronation. He falls in love with you no matter how you treat him, and proposes to you in Book 2, Chapter 16, and you have the choice to reject or accept the proposal.

Regardless of your answer, he feels you are important to Cordonia and bestows upon you the title of duchess and the duchy Valtoria. If you decide to marry him, he is ecstatic. If you choose a different love interest, he is heartbroken during Book 3 but hides his emotions behind a practiced facade.

In The Royal Heir, if you are his wife, you two are pressured by the country to produce an heir to solidify the Rys monarchy. If you are married to someone else, he asks you and your spouse to allow him to name your future child his heir. You agree to his request.

Drake

Drake is one of your love interests. At first, he acts cold due to his belief that you are taking his friend Liam away from him, but warms up to you eventually. During Book 1 and Book 2, you can flirt with him but he is conflicted with his own feelings because he knows Liam is in love with you. If you declared your love for Drake in Book 2, he will propose to you in Book 3, Chapter 1.

Hana

Hana is one of your love interests. You first meet her in the Royal Palace boutique, where she compliments your looks. Depending on your choices, you can build your relationship with her and she becomes one of your trusted friends and allies. During Book 1 and Book 2, you can flirt with Hana but she believes in the end you will choose the prince. If you rejected the Prince's proposal and declared your love for Hana, she will propose to you before the Homecoming Ball in Book 2, Chapter 18. In Book 3, Chapter 1, she will give you the ring when the two of you have some time alone.

If you didn't get engaged to her, you can choose her to be your maid of honor in Book 3, Chapter 17.

In The Royal Heir, when Liam asks to name your future child his heir, you and Hana find out that she cannot carry a child to term so the responsibility falls on you.

Maxwell

Maxwell is one of Liam's friends. He flies you to Cordonia and sponsors you to join the suitors vying for Liam's hand. In Book 2, he becomes another potential love interest. If you reject Liam's proposal and tell him that you're in love with Maxwell, Maxwell will propose to you in Book 3, Chapter 1.

If you didn't get engaged to him, you can choose him to be your maid of honor in Book 3, Chapter 17.

Olivia

Olivia is initially your rival for Liam's affections. When you first meet her, she gives you false advice in an attempt to disgrace you before the court. During Book 1, you can treat her snidely or you can improve your relationship with her by being friendly and honest. If you choose the former, she does not find you intimidating. If you choose the latter, she begins to regard you as a friend. In Chapter 19, if you decide to follow her and find out why she left the coronation, she tells you that you need to win because you need to save Liam from Madeleine's clutches.

In Book 2, she seeks you out and allies with you to discover who was behind the plot to discredit both of you. She eventually comes to respect and befriends you. In Book 3, you can choose her to be the Maid of Honor at your wedding.

In Book 3, Chapter 17, you can choose her to be your maid of honor.

In The Royal Heir, Book 1, she is happy when you become pregnant, and offers you premium paintings for your child's nursery. In Book 2 and Book 3, she helps you with your Auvernal and later Barthelemy problems, and is the one ally you can depend on.

Madeleine

Madeleine is another of your rivals. At the end of Book 1, she becomes engaged to Liam, who convinces her to let you stay at court. She offers to "share" him with you, as she only wants to be Queen and does not love him. She is hostile to you personally, but defends you from the press's unfair treatment. In Book 2 when Liam breaks off their engagement, she tells you that you will ruin Cordonia but in Book 3, you are forced to recruit her as your Press Secretary to help you battle the press fires surrounding the terrorist attacks. She takes the job out of her love for Cordonia, and it is up to you if you want to treat her well or not.

In The Royal Heir, Book 1, she constantly asks if you are pregnant and when you discover you are, she releases the announcement to the press without warning. In Book 2, she is ashamed of her father's role in Queen Eleanor's death and it is your choice to accept her apology and be gracious or treat her like dirt. If you choose the former, she is your ally and helps you against Barthelemy in Book 3. If you choose the latter, she becomes your enemy and helps Barthelemy against you.

Penelope

Penelope is another of your rivals. During Book 1, you can persuade her to support you against Olivia and Madeleine. In Book 2, you find out that she is the one who arranged for the photographer to find Tariq in your room, and that she was asked by Bastien to do so. It is your choice to forgive her or not. In Book 3, it is also your choice to try to gain her and her family's support during the Unity Tour. She is part of your bridal party, and you can choose her to be your Maid of Honor if you wish.

In Book 3, Chapter 17, you can choose her to be your maid of honor.

In The Royal Heir, Book 3, she asks you to be her bridesmaid and later officiant. When you find out about her previous marriage and how her ex-husband is blackmailing her father, you have the opportunity to convince her to tell Zeke the truth. You either barely convince her or you inspire her to speak from the heart and she tells Zeke everything. With the truth out in the open, Penelope is free from Guy's extortion and thanks you for your help.

Kiara

Kiara is another of your rivals.  In Book 2, Chapter 1, as a result of the scandalous events at the end of Book 1, she is surprised and contemptuous of your return to court, thinking that speaking to you would be prejudicial to her status as Madeleine's lady-in-waiting, and does not allow Penelope to speak to you.

In Book 3, Chapter 17, you can choose her to be your maid of honor if you didn't get engaged to Hana, for she will be Hana's bridesmaid if you wed Hana.

Constantine

In Book 1, you can choose to impress King Constantine with your manners and words. No matter what you choose, you discover in Book 2, that he was responsible for the conspiracy against you. It is up to you whether you want to forgive him or not. In Book 3, Chapter 10, he apologizes for his actions against you, and gives you the Cordonian crest to show that you'll always belong in Cordonia. You can choose whether or not you accept it and his apology.
