Relationships[]

Perdita Stone[]

Perdita is your sister, and the two of you were close before her disappearance four years ago. In a flashback to the day of her funeral, you are shown to be angry that people assume she's dead while you believe that she could still be alive. Throughout the book, you can remember conversations you had with her that can help you with your current investigation and also otherwise, as you learnt tricks from her such as how to sneak out of your house without being noticed. Perdita started to involve you in her investigations about six years before the main story and you know she worked on a case shortly before her disappearance but she refused to tell you who or what exactly she was investigating at the time. You can tell Donovan in Chapter 10 that either you have never reached point where you could say that it's over or that you all have to move on eventually. You say that Perdita didn't want you to fully follow in her footsteps as detective but wanted for you to be able to get out of danger. In the final chapter, you visit her grave for the first time in a long while. You can choose to accept to never find her or promise to keep on searching. If you have gained enough clues, her ex Jeremy will give you her diary that you get to read which will lead to a scene where you talk to her inside your head. The story ends with you saying goodbye to her grave.

Donovan Navarro[]

He is one of your love interests, and he snaps a photo of you for the yearbook. He thanks you for coming to Gabbie's funeral and says it would mean a lot to her that you came. In chapter three, when you and Tyler go over to his house to question him about Gabbie's death, he snaps at you and believes you are offering fake sympathies and do not have the right to grieve given you weren't close with Gabbie. You have the option of staying behind and helping the Navarro's with dinner with the begrudging assistance of Donovan. If you choose to understand his grief over Gabbie and his anger towards Tyler, he warms to you slightly. Just as you leave the Navarro's, Donovan warns you to be careful around Tyler as he has secrets before returning inside.

If you've romanced Donovan enough and aren't already in an exclusive relationship, you can decide to be in a exclusive relationship, an open relationship, or just be friends.

Tyler Woods[]

Tyler is introduced as Gabbie's boyfriend of six months and becomes one of your initial suspects in her murder case after you find his bloody pocket square at the scene of the crime. Therefore, you break into his car and scroll through his phone to discover that the last text he sent her reads "U are so dead", which you interpret as a death threat. Before you get the chance to investigate further, Tyler enters his car and drives off, unbeknownst that you are in the car with him. You manage to jump from the car and run off through the woods, alerting Tyler to your presence. He chases after you, warning you that you could get hurt but you ignore him and end up at the edge of the cliff were you are forced to confront him. When he learns that you suspect him of murdering Gabbie, he admits that he and Gabbie were in a fake relationship and gives you the option of looking through his phone again where it's revealed Gabbie had blackmailed him and was acting suspiciously. You also learn Tyler was not the one behind Gabbie's murder, but also suspected her death was no accident.

The two of you agree to team up to find out who killed Gabbie and head over to the Navarro's house were you question Donovan about Gabbie's death, though this causes the two boys to fight and Donovan accusing Tyler of never caring about his sister. Donovan warns you that Tyler is hiding something and you and Tyler head over to Stevie Sun's house to question her about a threatening note you had found in Gabbie's pencil case.

If you've romanced Tyler enough and aren't already in an exclusive relationship, you can decide to be in a exclusive relationship, an open relationship, or just be friends.

Stevie Sun[]

Stevie used to be your best friend, but the two of you are still friendly with each other. She is also one of your love interests.

If you've romanced Stevie enough and aren't already in an exclusive relationship, you can decide to be in a exclusive relationship, an open relationship, or just be friends.

Gabbie Navarro[]

Gabbie hired you to investigate ballot fraud against her boyfriend, Tyler, for Homecoming. Despite inviting you to the dance under investigation work, she spends the first half of the night making sure your having fun and bans you from detective talk for the ride to the Homecoming dance.

At one point that night, you find her sitting on the ground in the science hallway looking miserable and you have the option of finding out what's bothering her in a premium scene. If the scene is taken, she will tell you she doesn't feel like she's leaving any kind of mark on Beachwood High and worry's people will only look back at her as nothing more then a pretty face. Gabbie reveals she's never told anyone about this, not even her closest friends. You comfort her and tell her that people like her because she's a good person and is always taking care of others, yourself included. She appreciates your kind words and wishes the two of you had been closer before the two of you agree to be friends. Gabbie leaves the hallway and it is only after she's left you discover someone had written her a threatening note and given her a razor blade. You planned to ask her about it later but never got the chance.

Later, when Homecoming King and Queen is announced, Gabbie is found missing and you go searching for her, only to find her deceased body in the school pool. You attempt to save her but she's already dead and you are later found with her body and questioned by the police. You are haunted by Gabbie's murder and when the police announce they closed the case, believing her death to be an accident, you become determined to find out who killed her.

Millie Pereira[]

You and Millie are best friends. According to you, if she wasn't out of town during Homecoming, she'd be your excuse to not go to the dance. When she returns in Chapter 2, you tell her that you believe that Gabbie was murdered. At first she doesn't let you enter the pool to look for clues and doesn't approve of your investigation, but eventually she gives up and tells you to be careful. In Chapter 4 however, she still insists that the cops might be right, and wants to hang out with you and tell you something. Later when she tries to discourage you from investigating further, you two get in an argument. You soon reconcile and she occasionally helps with your investigation.
