Many outfits are available throughout the book, generally divided into 'elegant' and 'edgy' styles, with separate pieces available for purchase that can be mixed and matched freely. There are also multiple hairstyles which can be purchased through the course of the story.

What unexpected opportunity does the protagonist of Hot Couture get after their first interview? toggle section
Hot Couture opens with the protagonist interviewing at Hazel Boutique for the position of fashion designer, only to have her aspirations quashed by Bridgette Gardner, the company's Chief Creative Officer. Overhearing this and disapproving of Bridgette's harsh treatment of prospective employees, fashion photographer Marco di Vincenzo interrupts to offer the protagonist a chance to model for his photoshoot. This session is witnessed by Hazel Nguyen, the boutique's founder, who is impressed enough to hire the protagonist as a fashion model. As advised by Marco, the protagonist accepts the job as a way into the industry, though she retains her ambition of becoming a designer instead.

Generally, you are a dreamer who has loved fashion for a long time and wants to pursue a career in the fashion industry. When your dreams are dashed by Bridgette Gardner in your very first interview, an opportunity to model instead paves your way to learn behind-the-scenes and see how the business side works. The player can choose different personality quirks - being emotional or calm and practical, being angry or letting things go, being flirty or serious - but your character remains ambitious and determined to succeed as the underdog in the fashion world.

As a celebrity -first as a model, then as a fashion designer- the paparazzi follow you and Dirty Hollywood publishes unflattering articles about you. In one, they question if you have a drinking problem because they photographed you drinking three different things in one day, even though none of them had alcohol.

Luz Estrada is your best friend from college. She works at Hazel Boutique as a Junior Business Development Representative and got you an interview by pulling some strings at Human Resources. She also gives you your first inspiration for your Mood Board, knowing full well that you have a brown thumb when it comes to caring for plants.

Hazel Nguyen

Hazel Nguyen is the CEO and founder of Hazel Boutique and who you refer to as the goddess of the entire fashion industry. You do not meet her until she comes unannounced to Marco's photoshoot.

Bridgette Gardner

When you arrive at Hazel Boutique for your interview for an internship, Bridgette Gardner -the Chief Creative Officer (CCO) and Hazel's right hand- interviews you. She is especially tough on entry-level candidates and she is about to tell you that you do not have the job when Marco intervenes.

When you get a job as a model for the company, her dislike for you grows as she believes luck was handed to you on a silver platter, while she had to work hard for where she was. During the Milan Fashion Show, she takes credit for your designs, which makes you furious, but there is nothing you can do at that time.

After you quit or Hazel fires you, you have the choice to tell Bridgette off and you can tell her she has no design talent. She tries to blacklist you when she learns that you’re putting on your own fashion show.

Marco di Vincenzo

You meet Marco Di Vincenzo when he interrupts your interview with Bridgette. He offers you an "in" to the company by asking you to be his model for a fairytale photoshoot. You decide to take him up on his offer as a way to get in the door although you still want to be a fashion designer. He becomes one of your potential love interests.

Felix Marlborough

Not quite a father-figure, Felix is Hazel Boutique's resident tailor and becomes your co-worker and friend who never shies from giving his honest opinion.

  • The book reuses the faces from Bloodbound.

  • You have a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design, and you hail from Connecticut.
  • This book is the first to feature different default outfits depending on player choices. Choosing more 'Elegant' or 'Edgy' outfits will impact which outfits are available in later chapters.
    • The default outfits 'Plum Princess' and 'Bad to the Bone' are elegant and edgy respectively.
    • The non-premium formal outfit in Chapter 2 depends on previously-chosen styles. 'Sapphire Dream' is the elegant default and 'Cross-Cross' is the edgy default.
