Choices: Stories You Play Wiki

Your Character in A Very Scandalous Proposal is the main protagonist of the A Very Scandalous Proposal book.

Although her default name is "Sophie MacDonald", the player can choose to name her as they wish.

Appearance

Your appearance is customizable according to the player's preferences.

Personality

Although most traits are determined by the player, in general you have journalistic integrity. You don't jump at the chance to get the "scoop" on the Montjoys until you exhaust your resources. You are also a good friend and are friendly and polite to other "commoners". It is your choice to be rude and show no manners versus practice upper crust etiquette to the aristocrats you meet.

Background

You are an American journalist who has written articles about the Royals (specifically Meghan and Harry's marriage[1]) for Bella magazine in the past. After reading a memoir about Gemma Montjoy, the 13th Duchess of Wessex, and how she had to buy her freedom from her husband in exchange for her silence on certain scandals, you decide to uncover and expose the secrets of one of England's most private and aristocratic families, the Montjoys.

Relationships

Nigel Brookes

Nigel is your good friend from college, who works as a banker in England. In Chapter 1, he picks you up from the airport, hands you a cup of your favorite coffee—toffee mocha latte—of which he has coined your nickname from, and drives you to tour the Barrington House. Because the Montjoys are notoriously private individuals, Nigel could not tell you how Simon/Ava Montjoy looks like ahead of time and is unsure how you want to pursue your research on the Montjoy family.

Simon/Ava Montjoy

When you and Nigel go to tour the Barrington House, a mysterious stranger catches your eye. If you decide to sneak off with him/her, he/she gives you a little dirt on the Montjoys. At the end of the tour, Juliet Clarke announces his/her presence to the tourists and you are shocked to discover that he/she is Simon/Ava Montjoy, the heir/heiress to all of Barrington and future Duke/Duchess of Wessex. He/she becomes your potential love interest.

When Simon/Ava proposes to you - a partnership where you pretend to be his/her fiance in exchange for secrets of the Montjoy family - you are against it at first. However, all your leads end up to be dead ends as no one will talk to you and give you the dirt about the family. Thus you agree to the proposition, and your choices determine whether or not you impress his family, friends, and peers. You are also given the opportunity to gain allies to help you in the future.

As your fake relationship progresses, you find yourself developing feelings for Simon/Ava. At the very least, you become friends and you are attracted to him/her. When a "tell-all" expose article hits the Daily Star with your by-line, your fake relationship and your journalistic integrity are called into question forcing you to change tactics to discover who framed you and why. Simon/Ava believes you are telling the truth but his/her trust is rattled.

Patrice Wharton

Patrice Wharton is your editor. At various points, she calls you to ask about the status of your novel, delighted when you have good news and frigid when you don't. In Chapter 10, she is livid about the article with your by-line as it destroyed the novel you were working on and tells you that if you don't produce better and juicier information, your contract will be terminated with the publisher.
