Gameplay Features

• Throughout the story, you have the opportunity to collect weapons and armor to add to your arsenal and get an edge against your enemies. You also have choices in expanding your colony.
• This story shares several mechanics with the Blades of Light and Shadow series, such as a level system, side missions, injuries, and a collectible set that unlocks a bonus scene if you collect all the items.
• At the end of every chapter is a recap and a progress report, similar to The Crown & The Flame series.

Hard Choices

As the story progresses, you will encounter hard choices similar to the Endless Summer series. However, the mechanics are different: whereas Endless Summer had choices that had the chance of great success or failure, Wake the Dead involves distinct choices with inevitable consequences for either that might be felt later down the road.

5	Shoot Eli or try to break through to him.	You shoot. Eli is confused as to why you try to kill him now and not before.	Eli attacks you and later feels guilty for attacking you.	12
6	Put Dirk and the other traitors to death or Spare them.	You execute them by shooting them in the head. Feather protests.	You spare them and gain +Fighters. Sledge protests. Dirk attempts to protect you from Your Sister, but dies.	18

Trivia

• This is the first Early Access book to go on hiatus, as well as the first to go beyond 16 chapters.
• This marks the third time for non-VIPs to launch only a single chapter on a series debut since Home for the Holidays.
• Chapter 1 warns players of the violence and gore in the book.
  • A premium scene with Troy in the same chapter contains a reference to The Matrix movie.
• The name, plot and cover are all clear references to the post-apocalyptic horror T.V. series The Walking Dead, which itself is based on the comic series of the same name, written by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.
• A premium choice in Chapter 4 informs that Zombies are caused by parasites. It also confirms that the zombie outbreak started in 2021. Given that 21 years have passed in-universe, possibly this story takes place in 2042.
  • Later chapters infer that the parasite first appeared in the year 2025, which would mean that the story takes place in 2046.
• In Chapter 15, it is mentioned that it takes approximately 2 days to reach Reno. This infers the setting of the story takes place in California or Nevada, approximately 40 to 60 miles away from Reno.
• One of the writers behind Wake the Dead shared behind-the-scenes tidbits on X, formerly Twitter. Since the new ownership no longer allows access to the site without an account, screenshots of that information have been added to the Miscellaneous gallery above.
