Ventra Tal Kaelen, a character from the Blades of Light and Shadow series, is Queen of Flotilla and Imtura Tal Kaelen's mother. Although she is first mentioned in a lore tablet in Chapter 2, she makes her first appearance in Book 1, Chapter 5.
Appearance
Ventra has long silver braided hair, gold eyes and green skin. She is muscular and has two horns growing from her head. She wears a brown leather tunic under a tan fur and green cloak with metal chain. Her crown consists of four horns arced upwards from a gold and blue headpiece.
Personality
In Book 2, Chapter 15, Imtura mentions that Ventra treats every one of her crew members equally, including her own daughter. Every crew member had to pull their own weight, as in Chapter 12, Imtura mentions she had to learn to sail when she was 9. Any rule breaking, even by her, will be met with the same punishment: either extra duty or time in the brig.
In Chapter 16, she is mentioned to be a caring ruler to Flotilla, as she kept her illness a secret from almost everyone, seeing it as a weakness that could leave Flotilla vulnerable to attack.
Background
She is mentioned in a lore tablet to have founded Flotilla 10 years ago, uniting the 12 fleets under her rule.

Relationships
Imtura Tal Kaelen
Ventra is Imtura's mother. Ventra wants her daughter to stop her foolish ways and come back to Flotilla to learn to rule and take her place as the heir.
Vantissa
While Ventra has the reputation and the legend behind her of uniting the Orc Clans, not all Orcs are happy with her leadership. In Chapter 3, Vantissa mentions that Ventra made it clear what sort of people were welcome in her new order and that did not include people like her. However, clan politics and problems are beyond Vantissa's station in life and she does not worry herself over them.
