The Shadow is one of the eleven Chat stories that were originally only available to a limited number of players. On October 16, 2024, it was released to everyone.

Caught between a dangerous vampire and a determined hunter, Sara has to find a way to stop the carnage in time.

Chapter 2: The Monster You Know

A stranger says Sara is in danger, but should she trust him? Or trust the friend he says is a monster?

Chapter 3: Unlikely Allies

Determined to put an end to Lucian's rampage before he hurts anyone else, Sara and Dev team up to stop him.

Chapter 4: Thirst

Sara tries to reason with Lucian, but blood may be all he really wants.

Chapter 5: Hungry Things

With Dev in danger and Lucian on the prowl, can Sara stop the bloodshed before it spirals out of control?

Chapter 6: All In

With Natasha's future hanging in the balance, Sara must find a way to save her friend before Lucian makes his move.

A final confrontation pits vampire against hunter, and puts Sara's past choices to the test.

Characters

Sara

Sara is the book's protagonist. Her choices determine whether or not Lucian and Ellie survive the story. She can also choose to stay human or become a vampire at the end of the story if she kept Ellie alive. In this case, she can also choose to keep Lucian alive or to kill him.

Lucian

Lucian is a vampire who previously flirted with Sara and who bit Ellie. He can separate his shadow to follow people during the day. If Sara encourages him to be good, he will spare Ellie and then offer Sara to turn her into a vampire as well. If he instead kills Ellie, either Dev or Sara will kill him.

Dev

Dev is a monster hunter and warns Sara about Lucian.

Natasha

Natasha is a friend of Sara and Ellie.

Ellie

Ellie is a friend of Sara and Natasha. She was bitten by Lucian at a party the friends attended together with Lucian. He later kidnaps Ellie to prevent the secret that he bit her from coming out. Depending on Sara's choices, she is then either spared or killed by him.

• In the October 2024 edition of Choices Insiders, released on October 3, 2024, it was announced that this book would soon become available to all players. It appeared in-app on October 11, with all chapters listed with a release date of October 16.
• On October 11, 2024, PB promoted the book together with Knock Knock and Bitten on TikTok.

Trivia

• On General Release, the total cost of the chapters was reduced by 1.
• This is one of 5 chat books that never received any known chapter titles during beta phase. The other four include Knock Knock, Mommy Dearest, Texts From HSS, and The Right Swipe.
  • Texts From HSS retrospectively received chapter titles when it became widely available in September 2024. The same happened in October 2024 to this book: chapter titles were added to the index/interface once the book was listed for wide release.
• The gameplay in which the protagonist can encourage a vampire to be good to avoid them killing someone close to the protagonist was later adapted slightly differently in Storyloom's Heart's Blood.
