• On December 23, 2016, PB revealed that the premiere of this book had to be delayed by one week. The initial release date was supposed to be December 28, 2016.
• On January 4, 2017, PB released a blog about this book.
• On April 13, 2017, writer Kara revealed in their blog about The Royal Romance that the cameos from The Freshman in The Haunting of Braidwood Manor came about because a writer from The Freshman worked on it.

• This is the first short form book in Choices.
  • PB has reclassified this book as of 2025.
• This is the first book to incorporate one-shot sound effects.
• This was the first horror series released. In the in-game menu, it was listed under the "Mystery" heading until October 2017, when a new update changed it and instead listed it under the "Solve the Mystery" heading.
• The success of The Haunting of Braidwood Manor led to the release of the It Lives series the following year.
• This is the first book that contains a content warning at the beginning which gives the player the option to exit the book before reading further.
• In Chapter 1, Victor tells Your Character that "This isn't an episode of Ghost Hunters [...]".
• In Chapter 6, Kaitlyn, Zack, and Tyler, characters from The Freshman series, make a cameo appearance.
