I've always felt curiosity was the greatest thing in life. To try new experiences... to savor new sensations... Et oui, to answer elusive questions.
— Serafine Dupont to MC[1]

Serafine Dupont, a character in the Bloodbound series, is a vampire with psychic abilities that rival Scholar Jameson. Although she is mentioned in two earlier chapters, she is first seen in Book 2, Chapter 7.

Appearance

She has light brown skin, curly shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes that turn red as a vampire. She wears a red/fuchsia corseted-blouse, black pants with a black belt and gold jewelry (three strands of necklaces and double-hoop earrings).

Personality

She says she is too much of a cynic to stay smitten with Adrian's idealistic dreamer qualities.

Background

Serafine mentions that she was born in what is now Algeria, but raised in France. She frequently states that she loves to travel and was doing so for a long time. She has been to India during the Mughal rule, as well as Moscow and Hong Kong. According to Adrian, Serafine has been a pirate, an adventurer, an assassin and even briefly a queen. She was in Paris during the time that Gaius, Kamilah, Banner and Marcel lived there. In the 1800s - a couple of years after the United States Civil War ended, she lived in New Orleans for a few years.

Relationships

Adrian Raines

In 1882, she met Adrian in New Orleans. She was in a tavern (The Graveyard Shift) and "accidentally" spilled her drink on him to start a conversation with him. At that time, he was an ex-soldier and he was on business from Gaius, scouring the country for rogue vampires. She offered him employment and companionship. Even though she did not want anything to do with Gaius, she took a liking to Adrian. In a premium scene of Book 2, Chapter 9, Adrian tells you that he and Serafine only had a fling but that he regretted leaving her in Europe where she was in constant danger.

Kamilah Sayeed

In Book 2, Chapter 8's premium flashback scene, she welcomes Kamilah to the ball held in the Crypts, happy that the latter could attend. In Book 2, Chapter 14, it is revealed in a premium scene that they once were shortly lovers, which back then led to a short spat between Adrian and Kamilah about who was the better lover.

Gaius Augustine

In Chapter 8's premium flashback scene, Gaius introduces her to newly-turned Adam Vega. She compliments Gaius for having "a tendency for pretty creatures" and dances with Vega until the knights of the Order of the Down attack them. In the 1500s, their relationship ended badly.

Your Character

In Chapter 7, Adrian takes you and Jax to a Paris apartment, where he introduces the both of you to her. Before she delves into your mind psychically, she gets to know you as she considers the psychic process to be personal.

In Chapter 8, you have the premium option of bringing her along to the Crypts. If you do, she will help your group fight the Cryptoferals. When you kill a Cryptoferal with the Book of Blood, she comments that it was "amazing. And... strangely attractive?" Back at the apartment, she invites you, Jax, and Adrian to visit her nightclub. Serafine also offers you a premium outfit to wear to the club.

In Book 3, Chapter 6, you have an opportunity to kiss her.

Powers and Abilities

  • Immortality: In Book 1, Chapter 2, Adrian confirms that he does not age. Thus we can assume the same can be said for Serafine. She states that she has been a vampire for 700 years.
  • Super-Strength: In Book 1, Chapter 2, Adrian confirms that he is strong enough to lift a car. Thus we can assume the same can be said for Serafine.
  • Healing Factor: Accelerated healing is an ability that vampires possess that allows them to heal from physical injuries at supernatural speeds. If a vampire uses their blood such as when Adrian was done feeding on Nicole, they can heal the bite mark as well. Thus we can assume the same can be said for Serafine.
  • Heightened Senses: In Book 1, Chapter 6, Lily mentions how she feels the slightest air currents, how she can even see the tiniest pores in Your Character's skin and can hear the water running through the pipes three stories up. Thus we can assume the same can be said for Serafine.
  • Psychic Abilities: In Book 2, Chapter 2, Scholar Jameson notes that Serafine has psychic powers like his own. Hers include Memory Reading (a sub-power of Telepathy)[2]: the ability to read the target's memory to discover lost memories and help the person remember, or learn a memory that the target is unaware of, but could be useful. She also performs what is named in-game a psychic attack and a psychic hold on Xenocrates in Book 2, Chapter 14, to stop him from beheading Jax. While the attack includes him being in pain, it's unclear if her hold over Xenocrates works exactly the same as Jameson's pain inducement.

Weaknesses

  • Sunlight: Sunlight is one of vampires' weaknesses. As Adrian stated, sunlight does hurt him and can prove fatal after more than thirty minutes of exposure. It's akin to hypersensitivity; overexposure causes, as Adrian describes it, an accelerated heat stroke. This same weakness can be assumed for Serafine.
  • Decapitation: Dismembering or manually removing the head of a vampire will result in instant and permanent death.
  • Heart Extraction: Removing and subsequently destroying the heart of a vampire will also result in permanent death.
  • Unquenched Bloodlust: When Adrian first became a vampire, he felt the powerful thirst for blood which no amount of water can relieve. In the brief period where he resisted the urge, Adrian experienced severe discomfort whereby he eventually gave in to his instincts. It is unknown yet how long a vampire can remain thirsty or what the extent of pain is when this need is unmet. When vampires don't consume blood for extended periods of time, they tend to give in to their instincts and attack the nearest human nearby in order to suppress their thirst. Newly Turned Vampires like Lily are the ones mostly affected by this problem.
  • A Feral's Bite: A bite from a feral vampire is infectious to regular vampires because it can turn them feral too.

Trivia

  • The name Serafine is of Hebrew origin and means "burning fire". It's a variant of the English name Seraphine (which means "seraph", a type of angel with great authority).
  • The surname Dupont is of French origin and means "of the bridge".
  • There are theories that say that Serafine and Yvonne are the same person. Both were adventurous and assassins and speak French. Besides having the same appearance, they have already been in the Caribbean.[3][4]
    • It was confirmed in an interview that Yvonne and Serafine are the same person or a version of a universe parallel to each other.[5]
    • Her French includes several spelling mistakes. Whenever she uses the words "très" or "c'était", the accents that indicate how the vowel is pronounced are missing. She also refers to Your Character, Adrian, and Jax as "mes amies" when she should have called them "mes amis" due to Adrian and Jax being male and the form "amies" only applying to a group of females.
  • If you read her notes in Chapter 9, she reveals that she has slept with several men and women, confirming she is bisexual.
  • In Book 2, Chapter 10, Adrian mentions that she had a fling with Dracula.
  • Given her age, she would have been born in either the Fatimid Caliphate, or one of the Berber tribes. Serafine herself does not offer any clairification.
  • You get the chance to kiss her in a premium scene in Book 3, Chapter 6.
  • Her fate depends on the choice you make in Book 3, Chapter 16. If you have collected all Book 3 portrait fragments and chose to recruit her, she will celebrate life in a newly rebuilt club in Paris. If you don't recruit her, you will knock her out and she is instead shown talking to a group of vampires in a dark underground chamber, calling themselves the Daughters of Rheya.
