Persephone (also known as Selene Montmartre), a character in the Queen B series, is a senior in Belvoire University and the main antagonist of Book 2. She is first seen in Book 2, Chapter 1.

Appearance

Persephone has gray eyes, long wavy strawberry blonde hair, and fair skin with freckles. She wears a light blue dress with matching headband and triple stranded necklace. Although she has red hair, you believe her hair isn't naturally red. She also mentions that she has a custom tan, and had Lasik done.

Before plastic surgery, she had brown eyes, long blonde hair, and wore a pink sweater.

Personality

As Selene, she is shown to be friendly and peaceful, albeit emotional. As X however, you believe that she is going heavy on the whole "hero of the downtrodden" angle. Selene is in fact a power-hungry manipulator who exploits people's insecurities for her own gain. She promised change and revenge for the nerds, nobodies, and social outcasts without having a plan to implement the changes into reality.

She allows the paparazzi to spread rumors that she is Viktor Montmartre's heiress. As Felicity Wade says, Selene plays a very dangerous game.

Relationships

Your Character

In Book 1, Chapter 5, you first hear Persephone's name when Poppy warns you via text message to stay away from her stuff. She tells you that you don't want to be another Persephone Dalton. When you ask Zoey about Poppy's warning, Zoey tells you that Persephone was a Belvoire student while she was a freshman, and that she either dropped out or was expelled for an unknown reason.

In Chapter 16, she hacks 'The T' after the Person to Watch Award is awarded to you or Chloe. She posts a picture of you and Professor Kingsley holding hands poolside at the anthropology conference you both attended earlier, inferring a romantic relationship between you two regardless of your relationship with the professor. Although you are livid, there is nothing you can do and so you hope the scandal will blow over during summer vacation. However, when you are on summer vacation with Zoey or Professor Kingsley, Persephone texts you a picture of you two on the beach in real time. You look around and cannot spot her in the crowd of people, and become upset that you have another stalker, this one bent on destroying you and the professor.

In Book 2, Chapter 1, X's posts on 'The T' have incited mobs of students who want your head figuratively. Although Selene does not reveal herself, you speak to the students, responding to X's taunts and provocations. When Dean Steinhelm dissolves 'The T' and the ranking system, X brings it back and challenges you to see who will be "Queen" of Belvoire University this year. Persephone also states that you and she may have friends in common, so you will need to watch your back.

Unbeknownst to you and your fellow Top 15-ers, Persephone has come back to Belvoire and is disguised in plain sight as Selene. She had gone through plastic surgery so no one recognizes her. You meet Selene on campus when you return for your senior year at Belvoire University. She tells you that she read all about you when she was looking into transferring to Belvoire, and you can earn reputation points by being nice to her. She says her old school in Los Angeles did not have campus queens, and hopes you win against X for all the small town girls.

In Chapter 2, after the Apoidea party, you discover a secure chat between X and her disciples courtesy of Michael's phone. From that point, you decide to expose each of X's co-conspirators in an effort to bring X down. Although she is not one of the Top 15, she is one of your competitors to become an Apoidea member. In Chapter 8, she hides in a closet hoping to hide from the murderer in the murder mystery challenge. If you ask her what she has heard, she tells you that she heard a girl and a guy talking about murdering Veronica. However, she did not know who the voices belonged to. Poppy pushes her out of the closet and leaves her to fend for herself. When you come across her, Carter, and Erik, you can accuse her of being the murderer. If you do, the voice over the intercom tells you that you're incorrect. Since you announced your presence to the real murderer, you're eliminated from the competition and Selene advances to the next round.

In Chapter 9, you have an option to flirt with her. In Chapter 10, you believe that she is one of four people (or five people if you did not eliminate Carter from the Apoidea competition) that could be X. You think she is a crybaby and can't imagine her as being X unless she has you fooled. She says that it freaks her out that one of you is X when all of you have been welcoming towards her. However, X is a power-hungry lunatic trying to take as many people out as they can.

In Chapter 11, you find her photograph of Persephone in a 2018 yearbook. Professor Kingsley tells you about his/her interaction with Persephone several years ago.

Poppy Min-Sinclair

In Book 1, Chapter 13, if you decide to give Chase a tour with Poppy, you can call her out on Veronica's livestream and ask her about Persephone. Poppy claims she convinced Persephone to transfer to Juneau University to study moose in the isolated Alaskan wilderness. Ohio remembers Poppy telling her to slip ipecac into Persephone's beer, and Hayley heard a rumor that Persephone's mom made her drop out and go to rehab because she thought Persephone was a drunk.

In Book 2, Chapter 3, at the football half-time show, you and Zoey assume it is X behind the interruption in the Zeta House performance. Audio and video of the sorority girls are streamed across the field, causing the bottom rankers to become upset at the Zeta seniors for gossiping and insulting them and the Zeta sisters to become infuriated with Poppy for what they assume is her doing. You and Zoey believe that Poppy is now on X's list because she must have discovered something about X.

When Poppy confronts you and the Top 15 students in the campus quad, she automatically begins to insult Selene. At first, Selene is stunned but she manages to insult Poppy back, telling the latter that at least she doesn't have to mask her insecurities with a slew of hateful SAT[1] words that she doesn't understand.

Ford Tuantie

Ford is her current boyfriend. She blackmails him to be her date at the Oculus Ball.

Hit List

In Book 2, Chapter 2, it is revealed that a group of 8 people make up X's disciples. It is unknown if any of them know each other's true identities (before you expose them) or if X knows them individually. According to Michael, working for X sounded like a cool undercover thing. For Pete Scotch, he chose to work for X because he wanted revenge against you for stealing his TA job and for giving him a B+ on his paper.

Professor Kingsley

In Book 2, Chapter 11, Professor Kingsley states that Persephone was a freshman three years ago. She was a student in Kingsley's Anthropology seminar and was a Zeta pledge. She confided that her hazing tasks ranged from bathing in salad dressing to sleeping in a kennel, and then trying to kiss him/her. When Kingsley refused, he/she heard the next day that she had been dropped from Zeta and by the evening, she had withdrawn from Belvoire entirely.
