Relationships
Your Character
Patrice is your editor and basically your boss who calls you periodically to check on your progress. Because they (she and others) loved your royals coverage for Bella magazine, they agreed to turn your idea of discovering and writing about scandalous aristocratic secrets into a book. You have a contract with her and a publishing company, and if you fail to deliver, your contract will be terminated. While she excitedly tells you that this book could launch your career into the stratosphere, she can be equally cold to you when you run into dead-ends and appear to have no results.
In Chapter 2, you oversell your relationship with Simon/Ava Montjoy to her to make her believe that you're close to finding the juicy details of the Montjoy family's past. Because of this, you are forced to accept Simon/Ava's proposal to gain access to the scintillating bits for your prospective novel. In Chapter 5, you give her a few details but find Hugo Lawson outside your window and you wonder how much he heard. In Chapter 8 while you're at the Royal Ascot with the Montjoy family, she calls you pushing for more substance because she needs to convince her publisher that your book is still a good bet. Again, you find Hugo eavesdropping before Tommy finds you to escort you to meet the Sinclairs.
In Chapter 10, she is infuriated by the Daily Star's article that gives all the scandal and intrigue that you were gathering for your book. She tells you that the article came from your Bella account, which stuns you because someone would have had to hack into your work email to send it off. Because the article would make your novel "old news", she says she needs a new scandalizing chapter to show your publisher or they will have to terminate your contract. You promise to deliver, but find yourself at a loss because the article has effectively destroyed your reputation and made you a persona non grata.
