- On June 18, 2020, PB confirmed Open Heart, Book 3 is in development via response on their social media platforms like Instagram.[1]
- The official title is confirmed in the second book finale.
- In the Choices Insiders of December 2020, PB confirmed the book will be released next year.[2]
- They also released a preview from the team: “I’m really excited for book three. Most of the residents are entering their final year, and they’re making really big decisions about their futures and the kinds of doctors they want to be. Keep an eye out for some serious power struggles and an old rival to make a reappearance!”
- On January 8, 2021, PB revealed the book will premiere on February in the Choices Insiders e-mail.[3]

- Chapter 5 issues a warning regarding themes of end-of-life decision-making.
- Chapter 8 shares the same title as A Courtesan of Rome, Chapter 18, "The Die is Cast".
- Chapter 15 shares the same title as Surrender, Book 1, Chapter 19, "Day in Court".
- The end of Chapter 15 says that the next chapter will be the finale.
