Open Heart: Second Year is the second book of the Open Heart series. It is alternatively known as Open Heart, Book 2. It succeeds its first book, Open Heart, Book 1 and is followed by Open Heart: Third Year.

• The second book was hinted at in the penultimate chapter of Book 1.
• On June 7, 2019, PB announced via their Insiders Email that a second book in the series was being worked on, thus officially confirming the book.
• On June, 20, 2019, it was revealed that in the update for the Choices App on this day, one of the new ads for the app features Ethan and a version of Your Character.
• On July 22, 2019, PB teased that this book would come out either during Fall or Winter 2019.
  • When asked to clarify if it's either Fall 2019 or Winter, they responded to Fearless Diva that they couldn't say at this time.
• On August 2, 2019, in their monthly newsletter, Choices Insiders, it was announced that this book along with HSS: Class Act, Book 3 and Save the Date would be released later this year.
  • On August 2, PB confirmed again via a Q & A on Instagram that this book would come later in 2019.
• On August 16, 2019, PB released a blogpost celebrating the three years anniversary of Choices in which they gave some information about upcoming books.
  • In the blogpost, PB confirmed that this book will be launching in late 2019.
  • They also confirmed that you get your own intern.
  • There will be more drama, romance & heartbreak in addition to more high-stakes cases.
• On September 30, 2019, in their "1,000 Chapters and Counting" blog, PB teased high-profile cases for Your Character as well as challenges for your friends in this book.
• On November 8, 2019, in the November Choices Insiders, PB revealed the list of books they would wrap up 2019 with. Open Heart, Book 2 was not included in this list, thus revealing that the book would not be released until early 2020.
• On December 2, 2019, however, they replied that it comes out this winter and didn't state a release in 2020. They teased more information in the upcoming newsletter.
• In a December Choices Livestream, they revealed that the book would be out in February 2020.
• On December 13, 2019, the first sneak peek was included in this month's Choices Insiders.
• On December 20, 2019, PB released a blogpost about the book, along with a second sneak peek.
  • In the blog, writers of the book discussed the new book and several plot points:
    • One of the writers, Jilly, is excited for MC and their friends to be a full-fledged doctor and all the drama that will come with that. She also shared that the stakes are literally life and death.
    • Luke, the lead writer, revealed that you and your friends will never be the same again after your second year.
• On January 20, 2020, PB released a third sneak peek.
• On February 7, 2020, PB revealed in their monthly newsletter that this book would be released February 29th.
  • A fourth sneak was included in the "Starting Off 2020" blog.
• On February 21, 2020, PB released the summary for Chapter One.
• On February 24, 2020, PB released a teaser trailer with a link to the old Blog Post from December 2019 (see trivia point further above) for this book.

  • They feel that due to the mature topics they had planned for this book, it would be insensitive to publish them at this time. Thus, the summary for Chapter 10 was taken down, and OH will return at a later date with new chapters.
  • All of this in reference to the current situation that is happening in the USA (and beyond), with both the Black Lives Matter movement having multiple protests in the wake of George Floyd's death at the hands of three cops and the Covid-19 pandemic at the same time.
• On June 10, 2020, PB released a PSA saying they've decided to put the book on pause while they add more content to expand the story and feature more beloved characters, and that they hope it'll be able to return in August.
• On June 18, 2020, in response to a player, PB confirmed that Open Heart will receive a third book. 
• On June 24, 2020, PB was more vague about the date of return in response to a player, stating that it could be "around the end of summer or beginning of fall."
• On August 7, 2020, PB announced in the Choices Insiders mail that the book would return in September.
• On August 26, 2020, PB announced the book would return on September 5.
• On September 2, 2020, PB released a sneak peek for Chapter 10.
• On September 11, 2020, PB released a sneak peek for Chapter 12.
• On September 18, 2020, PB released a sneak peek for Chapter 13.
• On September 25, 2020, PB released a sneak peek for Chapter 14.

Trivia

• Unlike Book 1, Book 2 was released on Saturdays instead of Fridays.
• Chapter 1 starts with a flashforward several months into the future, with Your Character attending the funeral of someone close to him/her. 
• Chapter 7 advises player discretion, stating that this chapter depicts topics related to prescription drug abuse.
• If you adopted a pet from Book 1, Aurora will make a reference to Dr. Dolittle in Chapter 8.
• Chapter 4 shares the same title as Ms. Match, Chapter 12, and The Nanny Affair, Book 3, Chapter 7, "The Fallout".
• Chapter 8 shares the same title as The Royal Romance, Book 1, Chapter 14, "Fair Game". 
• Chapter 10 shares the same title as Bloodbound, Book 1, Chapter 6, "The Senator". 
• Upon coming back from its long hiatus on September 5, 2020, two chapters (10 & 11) were released simultaneously.
  • This is the first time to occur for a sequel, as typically only books that are just debuting get this kind of treatment.
• Chapter 11 is the first chapter of the series where you play as both Bryce and Ethan for free in addition to Your Character which makes the chapter multiple points of view.
• In Chapter 13, Esme and Zaid argue over movies, especially those by Stanley Kubrick: Zaid considers A Clockwork Orange a masterpiece and states that Eyes Wide Shut was his worst one. Esme disagrees with both opinions. He also mentions Paths of Glory. Esme concludes that he should watch movies made in the last decade but that Tarantino and Scorsese don't count.
• Chapter 15 gives a warning at the beginning that this chapter will explore topics related to medically-assisted suicide.
• The following chapters have slightly different titles between the interface/index and the first page. On the wiki, we use the in-game first page title rather than the interface/index title:
