Welcome to the My Two First Loves Theory Page. This is a place where you can discuss confirmed, debunked, and unconfirmed theories from the My Two First Loves series.
Confirmed Theories
- Gender-Locked: Due to the blurry cover image released in Choices Insider June 2020 (featuring one girl and two boys) and the recent romance release trend, it is possible that this book will be gender-locked. This is confirmed in an e-mail response to a player on June 27, 2020.
- Customizable love interests: It is theorized that the love interests will be customizable. This is confirmed via sneak peeks of the two male love interests. In the first three chapters, your childhood crush, your best friend, and the bad boy are all customizable with a set gender.
- Best friend is customizable: As the book's summary mentions that MC works up her courage to confess her feelings to her male best friend, but the trailer shows her BFF is a girl, and BFF's name hasn't been mentioned in the trailer, it is believed that MC's BFF will be (gender) customizable. This is confirmed in Chapter 2. However, your childhood crush and your best friend are two different characters. Her gender is set as female.
- Childhood Crush is related to the principal: Since both share the same last name, Jennings, it's theorized that they are related, with the principal likely being the Childhood Crush's parent. In the summary of Chapter 8, the principal is confirmed to be his father.
- Elijah: There's a theory that Elijah is the bad boy's brother because the former is the same ethnicity as the latter. Some players theorize that he may alternatively be his cousin, stating that Bad Boy only mentioned having an older brother and that Elijah looks younger than Bad Boy. In Chapter 28, the bad boy confirms that Elijah is the aformentioned older brother.
- BFF will be a love interest: Given your BFF is shown on the second trailer along with MC and the other two potential LIs, it is believed that she will become MC's love interest. The theory strengthened after Max, one of the writers of the book, revealed we will have more options to end up with in the blogpost, and further strengthened by the fact that she is customizable. This is confirmed in Chapter 38 as she confesses her feelings to you.
- Sexual orientation storyline: According to the warning in Chapter 1, one of the themes the book will explore is sexual orientation. Players believe this concerns the best friend, who may be hiding her attraction to other girls, specifically the MC, by dating the childhood crush. This is confirmed in Chapter 38, when Best Friend says she started dating guys to see "what all the fuss was about" and reveals her feelings for the MC. This is also believed to be the reason why Best Friend behaves differently towards him, depending on whether or not others are around.
- Reason Bad Boy went to juvie: After Elijah is revealed to be the bad boy's brother, some players believe the bad boy went to juvie because of something Elijah did. In Chapter 44, it is revealed that Elijah planned the burglary of the childhood crush's home.
- Love Triangle Relationship: Based on the title and thumbnail cover, many players believe the story's plot will involve a love triangle relationship between MC and two love interests. This is strengthened differently than expected as your childhood friend and your best friend are both customizable and in a relationship with each other at the start of the book. Pixelberry has used the hashtag lovetriangle on social media when writing about the book. In Chapter 63, it is confirmed the people who are involved in the love triangle are MC, Childhood Crush and Bad Boy.
- Principal Jennings: Principal Jennings talks about a deal that can only go so far. As a result, players believe he is up to no good. This gained more traction in Chapter 13, when it is revealed that the Jennings now live in a huge mansion, which seems extravagant for someone with a high school principal's salary. In flashbacks to Freshman year in later chapters, further expensive things like a new car and a gaming room for Childhood Crush are mentioned. In Chapter 47, the principal says to Elijah that the latter thinks to have dirt on him. As a result of this, it's also believed that the principal is blackmailed by Elijah.
- It is confirmed in Chapter 91 that he bribed prestigious universities with money received from parents to get his students accepted into those universities.
- Book Length: Due to the chapters releasing daily, with one chapter of weekly released books having the same length as several chapters of My Two First Loves combined, it is believed that it will be one of the longest books in the game, possibly even surpassing Witness: A Bodyguard Romance. This is confirmed in early August 2020 as it has more than 22 chapters, the length of the previously longest books, Across the Void and The Royal Romance, Book 3.
- On January 13, 2021, MTFL finally ended with 100 chapters, the highest number of chapters in one book to date.
- Racial tensions: The disclaimer at the beginning of the book warned that there would be racial tensions at some point of the book. As of Chapter 22, the only canonically person of color is Toni which is why some players believe that this refers to either her or someone close to her, for example her family. In Chapter 41, both Bad Boy and Childhood Crush become victims of police brutality depending on character model.
- Bad Boy's father: From the way Bad Boy speaks about his father who gave him the knife that is confiscated by Mrs. Applegate, it is believed that his father has died. Alternatively, he could have abandoned the family, which is the most likely theory after Bad Boy's explanation.
Debunked Theories
- Two Love Interests: Based on the title and the sneak peek released in the June newsletter, the main character of this book will probably have two love interests. And, following the trend of the recent Choices books, they may be customizable. It was later confirmed that the book will have customizable love interests, though Pixelberry didn't say the exact amount. This has been debunked as Max, one of the writers of the book revealed we will have more options to end up with in the blogpost, and further when the best friend (who is a girl) is revealed to be a love interest in Chapter 38, in addition to the two boys featured in the sneak peek and on the cover.
- Ride or Die faces: It's possible that the book will recycle the faces from Ride or Die because of the story's high school setting, and the Ride or Die protagonist is a high schooler. This is debunked as the book doesn't use any of the Ride or Die appearances.
- Childhood crush is gender customizable: As the book's summary mentions that MC works up her courage to confess her feelings to her male best friend, but the trailer shows her BFF is a girl, and BFF's name hasn't been mentioned in the trailer, it is believed that they are the same person and will therefore be gender customizable. This is debunked in Chapter 1 as your childhood crush is set as male. Your best friend is introduced in Chapter 2 and set as female.
- Polyamorous relationship: Many players believe that we can end up in an official relationship with multiple love interests instead of one, similar to Perfect Match and Mother of the Year. This is debunked in Chapter 95 as we only can end up in an official relationship with one love interest.
- Meaning of the title: Based on the cover, many players believe Childhood Crush and Bad Boy are the titular "two first loves". This gains traction when it is revealed that the MC has a hard time choosing between them (see love triangle relationship theory above). Also, it is not until Chapter 38 when Best Friend is revealed to be a love interest, and there are fewer romantic scenes with her compared to the two boys. This is debunked in Chapter 100, when it is finally revealed the "two first loves" actually refer to her chosen love interest and photography.
- Childhood Crush and Bad Boy's rivalry: Despite the rumors that the bad boy went to juvie because he robbed the childhood crush's house, players believe that the real cause of their rivalry was that they were partners in crime but got caught getting in trouble together during freshman year. While the childhood crush didn't face the consequences because his father bailed him out, the bad boy took the fall and went to juvie. This is strengthened by the tarot reading in a premium scene of Chapter 14, where the cards for Childhood Crush predict him avoiding responsibility according to your mother. While the rumors of the robbery aren't false, it was actually Elijah's doing.
Unresolved Theories
- Lauren: It is believed Lauren set the MC up by filming her kissing the childhood crush so that she can take the MC's place as Ava's new best friend and cheer vice-captain. However, there is no evidence to support this theory.
