Quote1
Quote2
I'm always down for . . . pretty much anything actually.
— Maxwell[1]

Maxwell, a character in The Royal Romance and The Royal Heir series, is Your Character's sponsor in the "competition" to become Prince "Liam"'s bride. In Book 2, he becomes one of Your Character's love interests. He is first seen in Book 1, Chapter 1.

Appearance

Maxwell has brown hair, tanned skin, and blue eyes. He wears a black long sleeve shirt and black jeans. In The Royal Heir, Book 1, he comments that he has a "dancer bod".

He has a tattoo of a baby hippo on his chest.

Personality

Maxwell is the youngest member of House Beaumont, and can be self-deprecating, especially when it comes to his capability in helping the house succeed.

He is generally friendly, patient, and positive. Little gets him down besides his brother. Although he isn't the most helpful in your courtly training, he does make it "fun" according to your character. He also enjoys drawing and is fond of photography.

StoryLoom Description

"Cordonia's most playful noble, Maxwell Beaumont is the life of every party, injecting a dose of chaos wherever he goes. But behind the wit and less-than-thought-out schemes, Maxwell carefully masks his struggles and those of his friends. Perhaps that's why, with his every jest, he seeks to bring warmth and laughter to those around him, acting as a cheerful beacon of light in the often-stoic world of the court."[2]

Relationships

Bertrand Beaumont

Bertrand is Maxwell's older brother. When they were younger, they appeared to be very close and thick as thieves. However, when their father "died" and Bertrand became Head of the House and inherited all the responsibilities of the role, the two brothers drifted apart. Bertrand is often seen scolding Maxwell every time the younger man messes up a task. When you enter their lives, their relationship starts to warm up, especially when you assist Bertrand to open up.

In The Royal Heir, Book 1, their relationship improves as he and their friends help Bertrand and Savannah's wedding run smoothly. Maxwell is Bertrand's best man and with Drake and Liam, they throw Bertrand his bachelor's party.

In Book 2, Maxwell does credit Bertrand for shielding him from all the pressures of court and ensuring that he had a happy childhood.

In Book 3, Chapter 9, their relationship is put to the test when Bertrand sides with their devious father, Barthelemy. However, it is all a ruse and in Chapter 17, Bertrand confesses to pretending to betray Maxwell and their friends in order to gain Barthelemy's trust. Behind their father's back, Bertrand collected supplies to help you and your daughter escape if your plans to thwart Barthelemy failed. When Maxwell tells Bertrand of their father's deception and failed coups against the Crown, Bertrand vows to help you and the two brothers reconcile.

Your Character

Maxwell meets you with his friends at Liam's bachelor party in New York. After seeing the chemistry between you and the Prince, he offers to sponsor you in the "competition" to win the Prince's hand. He saw how happy the Prince was with you and he didn't want his friend to lose that. Maxwell also says that in you, he saw "hope".

In Book 2, Chapter 14, if you admit to him that you see him as more than a friend, Maxwell becomes your love interest. He admits to you that he has had a crush on you but did not want to act on it due to Liam's feelings for you. If you tell him you think of him as a brother, that squashes his romantic feelings towards you although you can still choose to tell Liam that you love Maxwell and choose Maxwell as your fiance. If you decide to romance him, in Chapter 18's premium scene, he confesses that he has never been in a serious relationship before, thus making you his first girlfriend.

In Book 3, Chapter 1, the assassination attempt makes him realize he wants to take the next step with you. If you chose him in Book 2, he will propose to you in Book 3, Chapter 1 and give you an engagement ring in Chapter 2. Because you are his first girlfriend and now fiancee, romantic moments with him gradually increase during the Unity Tour. You have opportunities to increase physical affection with him, with your first opportunity for intimacy culminating in Chapter 10. From that chapter, you may continue intimate moments with him if you desire. Upon your marriage, he will ascend to the title of Duke of Valtoria.

If your character didn't choose him, you can pick him to be your maid of honor in Book 3, Chapter 17.

In The Royal Heir, Book 1, Maxwell presents the "Maxwell Vicarious Vivacity Simulator 3000" to you, telling you that you can redeem it to live vicariously through him if you want to do something that you aren't allowed to do while pregnant.

In The Royal Heir, Book 2, if Maxwell is your spouse and you mention to him about having more children, he will tell you that although he is not opposed to having a "Maxwell" (younger child) to your daughter's "Bertrand" (older child), he wants to wait.

Prince "Liam"

Maxwell is a close friend of King "Liam", having known him the longest amongst their group of friends. Maxwell cares for him greatly, going as far as bringing you to Cordonia and sponsoring you because of the connection he sensed between the two of you.

In Book 2, Chapter 16, it is revealed that Maxwell and Liam met when they were young and it was Maxwell's first time at court. The Prince reveals that he was upset at the time due to something his brother did. He was trying to put a brave face on all day, but Maxwell saw right through the facade. In turn, Maxwell made it his mission to cheer him up through a combination of compliments and distractions, succeeding through his persistence. What Liam liked most was that Maxwell ran up to him like they were old friends and didn't treat him differently because he was a prince.

During their childhood, Liam, Drake, and Maxwell often played together and would get into mischief. During one of Liam's birthday parties, Maxwell got covered head-to-toe in fudge and then got lost in the hedge maze. The palace squirrels found him before the royal guards did.

Drake Walker

Drake and Maxwell are friends. Drake often acts sarcastic towards Maxwell, but tolerates his antics. Drake is initially furious with Maxwell for hiding the fact that Savannah had a baby, but eventually forgives him and comes to appreciate what Maxwell did for his sister. In Book 3, if you choose to marry Maxwell, Maxwell will ask Drake to be his Best Man, which the latter accepts.

During their childhood, Maxwell bet Drake two hundred push-ups that they couldn't win a group singing competition. Whether or not they won is unknown, but that was the birth of the Cordonian (Barbershop) Quartet.

Barthelemy Beaumont

Barthelemy is Maxwell's father. It is mentioned they didn't have a close relationship as Barthelemy often criticized Maxwell for being overweight as a child.

When Barthelemy returns in The Royal Heir, Maxwell is overjoyed. He is glad to have his father back, his feelings opposite those of Bertrand's as the older brother remembers their father differently. However, when Barthelemy makes his play for the Crown, Maxwell is shocked and devastated. He begins to question if his father has always been this kind of person and if he was blind to not see it, if his illness and coma affected his mental state, or if being around Godfrey changed him.

In Book 3, Chapter 7, Maxwell is horrified and discouraged by what he finds at his father's secret hunting lodge. He remembers his father's perfectionism and how appearances and prestige are what matters to him. He thought his father teaching him how to navigate with a compass and maps was a lesson in geography; it wasn't. Barthelemy did that to teach his sons how to gain intel on other countries, to learn their shortcomings and their weaknesses, and how to get the upper hand before their enemies did the same to them. It is there, he learns that Barthelemy faked his illness and had purposely neglected his sons, thus missing out on their childhoods. Later in Chapter 14, when Maxwell finds out that his father apparently had a role in killing his friend, Liam's, mother, he is even more ashamed and enraged that by Chapter 17, he vows to help his friends thwarting his father's plan, he no longer considers Barthelemy his father and asks Liam if he can disown him by the time he and his friends successfully put him behind bars.

Bartie

Bartie is Maxwell's nephew. Before the events of Book 1, Maxwell knew of Savannah and Bertrand's relationship and its cumulation in Savannah's pregnancy and Bartie's birth. He respected Savannah's wishes to keep Bartie a secret from Bertrand, believing it was Savannah's secret to reveal and not his own. He sent her money to help her raise Bartie unbeknownst to his brother.

We’ve got a road map and we stick to it! Of course, that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate and value fan feedback; it just means that we tend to take a long-term, more big-picture view towards reacting to fan feedback. The one exception to the rule is of course, Maxwell from The Royal Romance -- and even that took a lot more planning and forethought than I think readers realize."
  • In Book 2, Chapter 15, Baby Kraken (Bubbles) from The Crown and the Flame, makes a cameo as the necklace that Maxwell wears for his casual outfit.
