Main Character in My Two First Loves is the main protagonist of the My Two First Loves book.

Although her default name is "Emma", the player can choose to name her as they wish.

Appearance

Main Character's appearance is customizable to player's preference.

Personality

"I thought I was supposed to be the one who's an emotional mess."
—Mackenzie to You

While it is up to the player to decide on how to act, in general Main Character is known as a "goody two shoes" daughter, having even won a Student of the Month award at Eastridge High and never being sent to the principal's office for bad behavior until her senior year.[1] She is held to that standard by her father. Where her day-to-day school and home life structure remains relatively benign, her social life and emotional state varies every day as she tries to figure out her feelings and the feelings of others.

She is initially a dedicated member of the cheerleading squad (like her mother was in high school), even being named co-captain. In Chapter 33, she quits the squad after realizing that it hasn't brought her any closer to her mother. Soon after, she develops a passion for photography and despite her emotional indecisiveness in her own love life, photography remains a constant in her life, becoming one of her "first loves". At the end of her senior year, she is accepted into the New York Art Institute.

Background

Her mother died during her freshman year after a complication during surgery. Lauren states that she "was basically a zombie" for most of it. The pain of her death fueled Main Character's efforts on cheerleading in an effort to be close to her.

Relationships

Childhood Crush

In Chapter 1, it's revealed that Main Character has a crush on him but hasn't seen nor talked to him for three months due to a family vacation where she had bad to no reception. He has always been there for her and helped her when her mother died. She plans to reveal her feelings to him but then learns from him that he has a girlfriend now. In Chapter 17, they accidentally kiss when the card drops during the party game Suck n Blow. Afterwards, Bad Boy takes her home and they kiss as well, and Childhood Crush sees this. In Chapter 22, he reveals that he left Best Friend to be with her.

Childhood Crush knows that he messed up by dating Best Friend and though in the beginning, he doesn't want to be Main Character's "second", he gives her as much time as she needs to come to a decision on who she wants to be with. In Chapter 95, she comes to her final choice. If she chooses Childhood Crush, he is ecstatic. If she chooses someone else, he is heartbroken and she has the choice to have closure with him.

Best Friend

Main Character and her best friend are together on the cheer squad with Main Character being vice-captain. Main Character has told her everything except about her crush on Childhood Crush. In Chapter 2, it's revealed that Best Friend is dating him.

After Childhood Crush is tackled on the football field, she notices how close Main Character is to him while tending to him. While Main Character expects a direct confrontation, Best Friend takes a different approach and suggests she get a boyfriend herself.

In Chapter 17, when Main Character arrives at her party, Best Friend is already drunk. She greets Main Character by sloppily hugging her, laying her head on her shoulder, and saying that she is her favorite person and that she loves her. Depending on choices, she will tell Main Character how she doesn't understand why she is still single; if she were a guy, she would be all over her.

In Chapter 18, she tells Main Character that she is done with her after a video of the accidental kiss between Main Character and Childhood Crush during the part game Suck n Blow goes viral. Later, Best Friend forgives her and after Homecoming, Main Character begins to realize that she also has romantic feelings for Best Friend.

After a failed relationship with Bayla, Best Friend is ready to tell Main Character her feelings. Although she doesn't want to be Main Character's "second", she also gives her as much time as she needs to come to a decision on who she wants to be with. In Chapter 95, Main Character comes to her final choice.

Bad Boy

In Chapter 3, Main Character is saved from a drug dealer by Bad Boy. In a premium scene, Main Character can give him a tour and begin to get to know him better. Because Childhood Crush is dating Best Friend at the time, Main Character tries to distract herself with Bad Boy and solving the mystery around him. In Chapter 18, they share their first kiss.

When Childhood Crush and Best Friend break up, Bad Boy finds himself in competition with them for Main Character's affections. Although in the beginning, he doesn't want to be Main Character's "second", he gives her as much time as she needs to come to a decision on who she wants to be with. In Chapter 95, she comes to her final choice. If she chooses him, he is ecstatic. If she chooses someone else, he understands he doesn't have much history with her as the other two do and is heartbroken. She has the choice to have closure with him.

Dad

Main Character is mentioned to be her father's little girl and therefore tries to appease him. In Chapter 10, he asks Main Character about her opinion on Mackenzie's behavior after he discovers the spray paint in her room. Even if Main Character defends her, he still compares both girls to each other and appears disappointed in her. That night, Main Character has a cheer exhibition at the same time Bad Boy suggests to have a date. While she don't feel like going to the exhibition, her father promised to be there so she cancels the date. However, when her father cannot make it, she decides that if he can skip it, so can she. When he texts her that he made it to the cheer exhibition after all, she texts him back and lies that she is studying at home. He later grounds her for this so she decides to sneak out to Best Friend's party.

In Chapter 25, when the police arrive (and if she is black), she and Mackenzie remember their father's advice to never run from the police. He repeatedly told them to stay calm, keep their hands empty, and don't give them a reason to believe that they are threatening. If she is another ethnicity, she and her sister run but are still caught by the police. When their father refuses to pick them up from the police, they can stay at the station or Main Character can call one of the boys to pick them up.

In Chapter 32, the family eventually opens up to each other and their father apologizes for how he has treated them. He ungrounds Main Character in time for homecoming.

Mackenzie

Mackenzie is Main Character's sister. They spent the family vacation in a tiny cabin, and when the Childhood Crush asks whether Main Character killed her, she answers there were some close calls. Mackenzie tells her that it's okay if she wants to change back into the outfit their father isn't comfortable with.

Lauren Young

Lauren and Main Character are together on the cheer squad. If she tells her that the reason she missed all the rumors about Bad Boy during freshman year was because her mother died back then, Lauren will angrily ask how she was supposed to know and rush off after being told by Best Friend to think before speaking. Best Friend and Iris reveal that Lauren wants to become both vice-captain and Best Friend's new best friend but both positions are currently occupied by Main Character.

At the end of Chapter 21, she deliberately doesn't give Main Character a hand when she climbs to the top of the pyramid even though she clearly said beforehand that everyone should make sure that nobody falls down. This results in Main Character losing her balance and falling down herself. In the following chapter, after she has reached the ground, twisting her arm and crying out, Lauren is happy and states that "the bigger they are, the harder they fall." She tries to put the blame on Main Character, saying that she slipped because of her terrible depth perception, even though Iris says she saw Lauren move her hand away.

When Main Character's dad lets her perform and go to the dance for Homecoming, she take the Crown Jewel spot from Lauren in the cheer squad. After she executes the moves flawlessly, she finds that she doesn't have the sense of accomplishment and happiness she thought she would from following her mom's footsteps. She quits the cheer squad shortly after, giving Lauren the opportunity to get closer to Best Friend.
