Main Character in It Lives in the Woods is the main protagonist of the It Lives In The Woods book.
Although his/her default name is "Devon", the player can choose to name him/her as they wish.
Appearance
Main Character's appearance is customizable according to the player's preferences. Gender, skintone, and hairstyle are choosable. If he/she survives the final game of "Are you Scared?", he/she mentions having an almost faded scar in Chapter 16 of It Lives In The Woods and is shown in Chapter 5 of It Lives Beneath wearing a black hoodie. If It Lives Beneath is played without importing or if he/she dies in Chapter 15 of It Lives In The Woods, he/she would have the appearance of "Mr Red".
Personality
As a child, he/she was shown to be very adventurous and fun loving. Main Character also seemed to believe in the Supernatural. As Main Character matured, he/she shrugged off the frightening experiences and believed that Mr. Red was only a figment of his/her imagination due to the grief of Jane's passing.
As a teenager, Main Character is shown to care about his/her friends. Main Character stands up to Britney when she insults Lily, and feels obligated to help Dan after he is kidnapped by Mr. Red.

Dan Pierce

Dan is Main Character's friend who was kidnapped by Mr. Red. Main Character hasn't seen Dan for a while, so when "he" appears suddenly in Main Character's room, he/she surprised. In reality, it wasn't Dan but a monster disguised as Dan who Mr. Red sent to attack Main Character. He/She is not sure if the attack was a nightmare or if it was real, but bruises on his/her body seem to indicate the latter.
Later, Main Character and his/her friends go to visit Dan in the hospital, where supernatural events occur and Ava saves the group.
Jane Marshall

Jane is Main Character's childhood best friend. Ten years before the events of this book occur, Main Character and Jane wandered into a house in the woods. Both experienced some strange supernatural events. Later, the two bring all their other friends (Dan, Ava, Noah, Lily, Andy, Stacy, and Lucas) back to the house to check it out. This results in them meeting a mysterious entity named Mr. Red, and over the summer, the children visit Mr. Red and play games. In their last game -one of Mr. Red's choosing called "Are you Scared?"- Jane dies at Mr. Red's hands. Her death traumatizes everyone into parting ways and suppressing their memories and feelings as best as they can before mysterious supernatural events occur again, bringing them back together.
Ava Cunningham

Ava is one of Main Character's friends who believes in the supernatural and the occult; she is also one of his/her love interests. In Chapter 1, Main Character can choose to sit next to her during the assembly and find out more about her supernatural experiences. In Chapter 2, he/she can choose to bring her along into the woods. In Chapter 4, Main Character can choose to help her research Westchester's history of witches and cults. He/She can begin to pursue a romantic relationship with her in Chapter 7 if desired.
Noah Marshall
Noah is Jane's brother. He and Main Character seem to have an uncomfortable history due to Jane's death. He is also a strong believer in the supernatural and accompanies him/her into the woods in Chapter 2.
In Chapter 14, he leads Main Character into a trap and threatens him/her with Ava's knife. In Chapter 15, Noah's and Main Character's nerve scores and the player's choices determine whether or not the player get to choose who is sacrificed or if Noah kills Main Character.
Lily Ortiz
Lily is a timid girl who is afraid of the supernatural. If Main Character chooses to protect her, they will have a better relationship. In Chapter 4, Main Character can choose to help her research Westchester's history of witches and cults. He/She can often boost her nerve by complementing and supporting her relationship with Britney.
Andy Kang
Andy is skeptical about the supernatural but determined to save Dan at the same time. Main Character can choose to bring him into the woods in Chapter 2. He seems genuinely upset to discover that he/she was attacked. He is one of Main Character's love interests, and he/she can begin to pursue a romantic relationship with him in Chapter 7 if desired.
Stacy Green
Stacy is a cheerleader who gets bullied by Britney. She is one of Main Character's love interests, and he/she can begin to pursue a romantic relationship with her in Chapter 7 if desired.
Lucas Thomas
Lucas is the school president and a perfectionist. He helps Main Character out of trouble with Mr. Cooper and helps him/her escape the locker that Cody and Jocelyn locked him/her in. He later confides in Main Character about how he struggles with focusing, saying how he doesn't feel that he lives up to his parents' standards, trusting Main Character enough to speak about his drug problem. He is one of Main Character's love interests, and he/she can begin to pursue a romantic relationship with him in Chapter 7 if desired.
Connor Green
Connor is Stacy's older brother who is often see around town. Due to Main Character's relationship with his sister, Stacy, he sees him/her as a good person. He is one of Main Character's love interests, and he/she can begin to pursue a romantic relationship with him in Chapter 7 if desired and if not already started a relationship with his sister.
Britney
Britney is Stacy's bully that doesn't like Main Character either. Main Character is suspicious of her being friendly towards Lily.
Cody
Cody is Main Character's bully. In Chapter 2, he shoves him/her in a locker. In Chapter 4, he and Jocelyn follow Main Character and Lily, nudging them both with his car. He gets angry when he/she damages his car in retaliation. In Chapter 7, he is killed by Mr. Red.
Jocelyn Wu
Jocelyn is Main Character's bully and Cody's friend.
Hilda
Hilda is a friendly dog that belongs to Main Character's neighbor, Cid. In Chapter 4, you can choose to temporarily adopt her as a companion after Cid leaves town.
Cid
Cid is Main Character's friendly neighbor. In Chapter 4, he asks you to look after Hilda while he is away so she won't have to go to a kennel.
Your Character (It Lives Beneath)
If you survive, the MC of It Lives Beneath can ask you why you wear a black hoodie. In that case, you will tell him/her that you got a bad haircut recently.

- He/she mentions in Chapter 1 to have just turned 18. He/she is in his/her senior year.
- He/she is the second MC that could die. The first was Your Character (Endless Summer). However, in both cases, death is determinant.
- If he/she survives at the end of "It Lives in the Woods", he/she will appear in Chapters 5, 6 and 17 of It Lives Beneath and sport a new look. If he/she doesn't survive, he/she becomes recruitable as an ally in Chapter 15 during the final battle.
