Lucanus Flavius, a character in the A Courtesan of Rome book, is Victus's master. He is first seen in Chapter 2.

Appearance

Lucanus Flavius has brown eyes, short black hair with gray streaks, and dark skin. He wears a short-sleeved blue and gold tunic with a blue cloak draped over one shoulder.

Personality

Lucanus is described as cold, greedy, and arrogant. He mistreats all his slaves and thinks he is above everything because of Caesar.

Background

In Chapter 21, he reveals that he was a boy from nowhere, who made his name in blood. He was a gladiator in his past, and earned enough to buy his own freedom and start his own ludus. He became his own master, opening his ludus in the city of Arretium.

Relationships

Victus

Victus is his slave. Lucanus named Victus the "Conquered King" to remind the latter of his status, but Victus tells the former that he will never be broken. When the group runs across Caesar's camp, Caesar tells Lucanus the same thing: that Victus' spirit has not been broken and that makes the former king dangerous. In Chapter 21, when Victus leads the gladiator distraction, he fights Lucanus and kills him.

Main Character

In Chapter 19, when she is forced to stay in the gladiator barracks to prepare for her fight in the arena, he serves her poisoned bread and greets her from Caesar.

Locusta

When Locusta reveals to Main Character that she was poisoned and tries to give her the antidote, Lucanus stabs and kills her.
