Jun Seong, a character in The Deadliest Game series, is Nick Gallant's friend and bodyguard. He is also one of your love interests. He is first seen in The Deadliest Gambit, Chapter 1.
Appearance
Jun has short black hair, brown eyes, and light skin. He wears a black suit jacket with a black vest and a black patterned tie, and a gray shirt with a silver tiepin.
Personality
Jun is stoic, serious, hypervigilant, naturally suspicious of people he doesn't know, and fully committed to his duties. Most efforts to get him to socialize have him reacting with the long-suffering acceptance that he won't be left alone until he stops resisting. However, he will occasionally relax enough to enjoy the companionship of a select few, at which point his normally-wry sense of humor mellows out into something warmer and more open.
Background
Jun was raised in a coastal town by parents who had grown up in post-war Korea and taught him to be self-sufficient from an early age. He is the oldest of four children, and since his mom and dad worked long hours to provide for them, he helped out by looking after his three younger sisters. He particularly enjoyed helping in the kitchen, which led to a lifelong love of cooking. He remains very close to his family, speaking with his mother almost daily and reserving his rarely-taken vacations for visits home.
He spent some time in the military, serving as a Green Beret with enough distinction to earn two medals. However, one of his commanders was corrupt and cared more for his own glory than the lives of those who served under him. When the commander ordered Jun and his squad to cross a minefield for no clear tactical gain, Jun fiercely refused to obey. He was vocal enough in his refusal to draw the attention of higher-ranking officers who rescinded the order, but the commander had already written Jun up for dereliction of duty and violent conduct, and he was dishonorably discharged.
Following his discharge, Jun moved into private security and began working as a bodyguard for rich clients, most of whom he held in contempt. Nick was the first client he liked and respected, and he worked with him faithfully for two years. He was happy enough with the job that he refused to let Nick reduce his demanding hours even when they interfered with his own social life, and he intended to continue as his bodyguard for the foreseeable future.

Relationships
Your Character
Jun is one of your love interests.
Nick Gallant
Jun was Nick's bodyguard. They met while Jun was still working for Steve, and though Nick attempted to befriend him, Jun remained detached and professional. Despite this, Nick could tell he was unhappy with Steve and offered him the escape of a better job. Jun didn't care about the details of the work as long as it got him away from Steve, but Nick's persistent attempts at friendship and fundamental decency eventually won him over, and the two built a solid bond. Jun was devoted to Nick's overall well-being while also enjoying his company and respecting him as a person, though he admits he spent more time protecting Nick from his own bad habits than from other people. Nick's death has left Jun struggling with guilt for failing to save him, feeling responsible for not anticipating that one of his friends was a threat, and determined to catch his killer.
In Chapter 15, you learn that the two of them had recently fought over Nick's refusal to provide financial assistance when Jun's hometown was hit by a chemical spill. Jun, unaware of of Nick's plans for his fortune, had been both hurt and angry that Nick wouldn't use his extreme wealth to help the people Jun cared most about. You learn in the following chapter that Nick had allocated a significant amount of money to Jun's town after all, with an additional eight figures earmarked specifically for the Seong family, leaving Jun saddened that Nick let him believe he didn't care enough to help.
Steve Bashir
Steve was Jun's last client before he began working for Nick. Jun loathed Steve's unethical practice of conning vulnerable people to invest in scams for his own profit, and he hated having to protect him from their anger after they lost everything. When Nick offered to hire him instead, Jun jumped at the chance to leave. However, he never warned Nick about Steve's true character so as not to interfere with their friendship, something he now deeply regrets. Although Jun is usually able to remain professional around him, Steve is one of the few people capable of making him truly angry.

Trivia
- In The Deadliest Gambit, Nick mentioned that Jun usually only drinks a protein shake at 6 A.M. as breakfast - which is why they had frequent discussions each time Nick offered Jun breakfast since Nick didn't consider a shake a meal.
- If you play Farah's drinking game in Chapter 4, you learn about Jun's military medals. He doesn't consider them his because he didn't do anything to earn them, and he refuses to explain further.
- A Chapter 10 premium scene reveals that Jun is something of a card sharp, capable of shuffling quickly and accurately enough to feed you a winning hand without being noticed by an experienced gambler like Medhani.
- In the same scene, depending on player choice, Jun will tell you the story of Cabbage, his family's Shiba Inu. Even though Jun had always wanted a dog, his parents never allowed it until his baby sister Seoyun asked for one. Jun adored Cabbage anyway and coped with his jealousy by training the dog to shake and roll over for him and no one else.
- If you read Medhani's medical notes in Chapter 11, you learn that Jun is lactose intolerant but otherwise the healthiest person she'd ever met. She'd seen him do fifty pull-ups without effort, and he confirms he was only a few seconds shy of being able to run a four-minute mile while still on active duty with the Green Berets.
- In Chapter 13, Jun casually mentions that he was once a cheerleader.
- If you choose to spend the night with Jun in Chapter 15, you learn that he enjoys K-pop and knows enough of the dances "to fill an entire concert." His hardcore-fan sisters got him interested in the first place, but he keeps up with it because it's a good way to stay fit and provides him with a way to blow off steam at the same time.
- If you use he/him pronouns, this scene will result in Jun admitting that he's "only ever been with women before" and wasn't sure how to tell you until now. He thought he knew his orientation but appreciates you for challenging his assumptions and opening his eyes to other possibilities. This dialogue occurs before the choice to sleep with him or just kiss for now, which seems to indicate that Jun means he's never had any romantic interest in or interactions with a male-identified person before you.
- If you search Jun's room in Chapter 14, you find two plastic toys on his desk - a penguin wearing glasses and a helmet, and a polar bear in overalls. Although this is never explained in the book, these are Pororo and Poby, two characters from the South Korean CG cartoon series Pororo the Little Penguin.
