Jebediah Covington, a character in the Baby Bump series, is the patriarch of the Covington family. Although he is mentioned in Book 1, he is first seen in Book 2, Chapter 1.

Appearance

Jebediah's appearance is determined by which character model is chosen for Mr. Covington. He wears a dark blue pin-striped suit with vest, white dress shirt, and dark purple tie with matching handkerchief. He has a gold leaf lapel pin affixed to his left lapel.

Personality

Jebediah seems to uphold more traditional values, as best seen in his initial displeasure over you carrying Mr. Covington's child out of wedlock and his not believing in the concept of co-ed baby showers. However, he can still own up to his mistakes and admit when he's taken things a step too far.

Relationships

Mr. Covington

Mr. Covington is Jebediah's oldest son. When Mr. Covington tells his father that he wants to be a part of his children's lives, Jebediah kicks him out of the family home.

In Chapter 8, Mr. Covington did not expect his father to attend the baby shower. In the past, Jebediah did not attend any of the baby showers for Joel and Leah's children, and his son states Jebediah doesn't believe in the concept of a co-ed shower. Jebediah also believed that if his sons wanted something, they should earn the money to buy it themselves rather than ask for it as a gift. While those were important lessons to learn, Mr. Covington felt that they just made his father emotionally distant.

When Jebediah arrives at the baby shower, Mr. Covington is surprised. Jebediah suggests a game that his wife used to play at their children's baby showers, and it is your choice whether or not you wish to incorporate it into the games. If you choose to, you learn more about Jebediah and his late wife. He says that when his children were born, he couldn't wait to see what they chose to do with their lives. Things may have not gone exactly as how he would have wanted, but he is grateful to have seen his children grow.

As Jebediah begins to criticize many of the gifts that you unwrap, Mr. Covington becomes irate and opens Jebediah's gift to see what he brought that would be better than the rest. Mr. Covington is shocked to find the model ship that he had wanted when he was a child but did not earn money fast enough to buy. In a way, it is Jebediah's offer to make amends and Jebediah asks to be part of Mr. Covington's life again and that of his grandchildren's. You can decide to welcome him unconditionally or be wary of him.

Your Character

Although he has heard about you previously, you do not meet him until Book 2, Chapter 1. He expects you to come to dinner and makes it clear that it isn't a request. In Chapter 2, you have dinner with him, Mr. Covington, and his other two sons, Gavin and Joel. You can impress him with your choices, but even doing so will not win his favor as he tells you in private to leave Gracetown and leave Mr. Covington. Even if you do not romance Mr. Covington, he doesn't want his eldest son to be marred by the stigma of having children out of wedlock, especially with a nobody like you. This angers you and you can either give him a piece of your mind in a premium scene or storm off. You inform Mr. Covington of what his father has said, and Jebediah is angry at that as well.

In Chapter 3, you have to convince him to approve of your and Mayor Dixon's plans to create a park instead of a golf course for the community to enjoy. If you decide to become "Queen of the Day" by grabbing the pocket watch before Craig Finch can, you can ask him to give you an honest compliment. If you do, he tells you that you and his son will have beautiful children together.

At the debate in Chapter 7, you bring up an unfair bias of having Craig's father be the mediator. Jebediah appoints you to be the second mediator of the debate, stating that it would be fair if each side had their own biased mediator. At the conclusion of the debate, he tells you that he may have been wrong about you, and about pushing you away. He feels that you might be what his son needs. You invite him to your baby shower, surprising yourself, him, and Mr. Covington.

At your baby shower, he suggests a game to play and it is your choice whether or non to incorporate it. Either way, you two still play the diaper changing game against each other as well as your friends and later, unwrap gifts. Although his words don't irritate you, he upsets Mr. Covington who lashes out in anger. When Mr. Covington calms down and realizes the olive branch that his father has extended, Jebediah asks to be a part of your lives. You can choose to forgive him or be wary, but you do allow him back.

As your relationship with him improves, he tells you that you remind him a little bit of his late wife. He admits that the first he heard of you was from the gossip blog that Cassandra had contacted, and that had colored his impression of you. He knows he was cruel and unkind and could have been a better person.

Cassandra Taylor

Cassandra Taylor's family and the Covingtons are old friends, and she has known Jebediah since she was a child. While he knows that Cassandra and his eldest son will never marry, he still enjoys her company in his home and treats her well.
