Jasper Tate, a character in the Big Sky Country series, is the primary antagonist of Book 2. He is the owner of Tate's Candy Emporium and the Sweetridge mayoral candidate running against Asha Roanhorse. He is first seen in Book 2, Chapter 2.

Appearance

Jasper has short dark brown yet graying hair, gray eyes, and tan skin. He has a beard. He wears a dark pink suit, with white dress shirt and colorful pocket square.

Personality

As soon as Mayor Calhoun announces his resignation, Jasper takes the initiative to jump on the stage and rally support for his campaign bid. According to Asha, he believes the wild west was the good ole days: small government, no regulations, and every man for himself. He has no qualms about taking credit for others' actions and stealing ideas. While he may be a good businessman, Sawyer states he pays his employees next to nothing and Asha mentions their poor working conditions.

During the showing of the Smalltown, USA episode featuring Sweetridge, he is shown demanding an unknown person to bribe whoever is necessary to make sure he becomes the new Mayor.

Background

Jasper was born and raised in Sweetridge. He took his father's failing factory and turned it into the biggest business in the county.

Asha Roanhorse

After he takes credit for leading the repairs of Milton's Antique Shop, something that Asha had done, she decides to campaign against him. In Chapter 4, his slogan is revealed and like Asha, he created buttons and is handing them out. Asha is being accused of stealing the buttons idea from him but you can remind everyone that handing out buttons is a basic step in every election.

In Chapter 8, he takes credit for Asha's idea to bring back the annual Sweetridge Flower Festival, donating $50000 from his business and reducing Asha's input to the hired help. During the mayoral debate, Asha bashes him saying that he prioritizes profit over the working conditions of his employees.

Your Character

When you first see Jasper at the town meeting, you ask Asha who he is. She tells you that he is a "big deal" in Sweetridge.

Bentley Johnson

In an effort to build up the "hype" of Sweetridge, Bentley films Jasper at the rodeo in Chapter 4. In Chapter 8, even if Bentley is on your side (and thereby Asha's side), he says that Jasper makes for good drama on television and gives Asha the advice to not underestimate Jasper and his tactics.
