The Gods are creatures of the Blades of Light and Shadow series.
History
Old Gods
The history of the Old Gods began long before they were recognized as deities by the elves. They were originally six leaders of the Ascendant, an ancient race that lived in the First Realm. In this realm, they wielded incredible power, using magic for everything from agriculture to extending their lifespans. As time passed, they realized their power was fading. To maintain their way of life, they began to collect magic from every source possible and, in doing so, discovered its dual nature: Light and Shadow. Believing that Light could restore their realm, they created the elves, beings of pure Light, to serve and protect their kingdom. Despite these efforts, magic continued to diminish.
To save their realm, Nifara and the other leaders decided to separate Light from Shadow, creating two distinct realms: one filled with Light and the other containing Shadow. They aimed to purify their world, believing that Shadow was the source of their problems. The sixth leader, known as the Mother of Grey, opposed this plan and attempted to overthrow Nifara. She fled to the dwarves but was eventually brought back. The leaders temporarily reconciled, but during the final ritual, the Mother of Grey and her followers tried to interrupt the process.
This rebellion led to a split, creating the Shadow Realm, where the Mother of Grey and her supporters were banished. After this event, the Ascendant leaders transformed into the Old Gods, honored by the elves for their role in shaping and protecting the world. Nifara became a central figure of worship and in contrast, the Mother of Grey's legacy became shrouded in myth in the Light Realm, and she became the leader of the Shadow Realm as the Ash Empress.
New Gods
The New Gods are six great elves who ascended to godhood after sacrificing their lives to secure victory in the Great War. These heroic figures were honored and elevated by the elves, who saw their actions as essential for the survival of their people.
In a premium scene of Book 3, Chapter 13, if you choose to hear a inspiring song from Kade, he reveals that Varlan and Vaelor are two of the New Gods. They are less well-known than Xaius and Ellara. The song called "The Secrets of Duskraven's Call" recounts a story involving them and one of Kaya's ancestors. The founder of Kaya's house, a spymaster, discovered that the Shadow Court was working with the Dreadlord. He sent Varlan and Vaelor to infiltrate the Shadow Court. They succeeded in their mission and averted several attacks. There is a connection to the Duskraven's lodge, mentioned in the song. According to Kade, further details about why Varlan and Vaelor became New Gods while Kaya's family remained a lesser house are unclear and may be related to the goblins and the Empire's intentions to banish the Court.
Myths and Legends
- The Lovers: Ittar and Bakshi's love story, where the god of earth and the god of water come together to form the rivers and lakes. The story of their courtship has inspired many epic poems and songs.
- The Duel of the Twins: Nithrax and Midys often dueled to strengthen their skills. Their duels split the heavens, and Midys would mend the sky using her brother's shield. There are stories of entire cities falling because they failed to seek the Twin Gods' favor.
- The Mother of Grey: Some suggest that she sacrificed herself to give the elves long lives so that they could see the beauty of the world, but others suggest she is just another aspect of Nifara.
- The Divine Valleros: The royal family claims descent from 'the Divine Valleros', a heroic demigod who plays a significant role in the early tales of Whitetower's founding and the establishment of the kingdom of Morella.

Trivia
- The Watcher and the Winged Warrior are servants of Nifara, who may not be gods themselves but possess some godlike powers.
- In Book 1, Chapter 2, if you visit the hall of gods, you see a statue of a dark winged warrior. If you ask Nia about him, she says she doesn't recognize him and he could be from a different pantheon. It is unclear whether the dark winged warrior and the Winged Warrior shown in Book 3 are the same person.
- In Book 3, Chapter 14, Kade reveals that the only way to kill an Old God is to give them more power than they can hold, which is how you defeat Nifara in the end.
