King "Liam" (previously Prince "Liam"), a character in the The Royal Romance and The Royal Heir series, is the Crown Prince of Cordonia and a potential love interest for Your Character. He became the King of Cordonia by the end of Book 1. His default name is "Liam", but the player can pick a name for him. He is first seen in Book 1, Chapter 1.
Appearance
Liam's appearance is determined by the player. He can either be an Asian male with black eyes and black hair (Face 1), a black male with blue eyes and a shaved head (Face 2), or a white male with blue eyes and blond hair (Face 3).
Personality
"Liam" is a simple, pure-hearted yet sophisticated individual. He knows his responsibilities and limits, and always cares for others before himself. Liam is always trying to be the king Cordonia deserves, his love for Cordonia is inspirational.
He tries to maintain an air of stoicism in front of the public and his court, but those that know him better can see more; for example, Maxwell sees how he looks at you, and Queen Regina notes the way his eyes light up when he sees you. He is a passionate and committed partner when it comes to relationships, either platonic or romantic: he falls in love at first sight with you, and does everything in his power to help you become integrated into his court; he has been childhood friends with Olivia and is very supportive of her, and he helps Drake and Maxwell whenever he can. He rarely gets angry as it takes a lot to make him lose control, and Drake has only seen him angry once (when you had been forced to leave from the Coronation).
In The Royal Heir, as "Liam" learns more about his father, he finds that filling his father's shoes is harder than he thought it would be. He realizes that his father wasn't the king he thought he was, that his father was driven by fear.

Biography
Early Life
Growing Up As Son of A Monarch
Even though Leo got the reputation as the palace prankster, there were times that Liam snuck out of his own diplomacy lessons. Maxwell therefore insists that he and Drake merely encouraged Liam's natural free-spirited instincts instead of instilling totally new ones with their own antics of mischief.
Growing up in the Royal family, Liam naturally trained in different forms of self-defense as well as etiquette, customs, and politics inside and outside Cordonia. And while Liam once went through a phase where he slept with his crown for about 1 to 2 weeks, he would otherwise only wear it during stately affairs and absolutely required.
The Walker Family
Because Leo was Crown Prince and kept busy learning (or avoiding those lessons as the case may have been) how to be the next monarch, Leo didn't have much time to spent with Liam. Much more of Liam's childhood was therefore spent alongside Drake Walker and Drake's own family.
One summer, Liam and his parents even vacationed at the Walker ranch. While Liam in general remembers the trip fondly, a time of eating more barbecue than he'd ever seen before in his life, Savannah recalls the amusing detail of him trying to convince King Constantine to let him take a calf home.
As Liam and Drake grew older and entered young adulthood, they began to drift apart. Liam was busy being introduced at Court, leaving less and less time for his friend, so Drake decided to set off on his own to enroll in university. During this time, an assassination attempt was made against the Royal family. Although the King's Guard was able to stop it and no one was injured, Liam was still shaken and began to exhibit signs of depression.
Behind closed doors, he stopped eating and would no longer talk to his family. Eventually Leo visited Drake at his university to ask the younger man to return. When Drake did, Liam tried to convince his friend to not worry about him, that Drake should return to university and live his own life but Drake refused. Liam was relieved and Drake was made aware of just how much Liam depended on him.

Meeting Your Character

King (then Prince) Liam is first seen in Book 1, Chapter 1, entering a New York City dive bar looking for his friends as they had randomly selected the bar Your Character works in for his bachelor party. He introduces himself to you and sparks fly. As your bar is closing, he comes up to you to ask which club would be a good one to go. You have the choice to tell him about the hottest club in town or a secret cove by the beach. Either way Liam ends up inviting you along and will tell you that even though he had a nice time with his friends, he really wanted to see the Statue of Liberty. This leads him to telling you that he is the Crown Prince of Cordonia, which leads to a discussion about what your passion and motivations are. He admires your free spirit and independence, something he secretly desires but knows he cannot have.

Explaining how court works
Because Maxwell Beaumont saw the sparks fly between you two that first night in New York, he asks you to become his House's suitor in the "competition" to win the Prince's hand during Cordonia's social season. You agree and in Chapter 3, you are reunited with Liam. He is surprised to see you but also flattered when he learns you came as a suitor. Liam tells you that the rules in Cordonia are different than New York and that the system is set up so that not only himself but his parents, the Council and the people of Cordonia have time to get to know their future queen. He says this means that all eyes will be on you and you must make a good impression. If you ask him about what he thinks, he tells you that he knew what he was getting into and the responsibilities laid upon him.
In the next chapter, you two share a short dance after you save him from an awkward and tedious conversation with Penelope. On the terrace, Liam tells you about the recent history of Cordonia, as well as his own recent troubles and fears. He also sprinkles tales of his youth with his best friend, Drake. The two of them used to play many games including one they created (maze-tag) in the gardens. Once the two of you head back inside, Liam solemnly tells you that although he should be fair and spend some time with the other girls, you are special to him.
Social Season
Through the social season, Liam starts to fall in love with you as you spend more time with him, Drake, Maxwell, and another of his suitors, Hana Lee. Your friendship influences him and puts him at ease, as he feels no pretenses with you and believes you see him as "Liam" rather than the "Prince". When his brother abdicated during the summer before the social season[3], Liam had closed himself off to his parents. No one knew what he was truly feeling or thinking, but when you arrived in Cordonia, they noticed his demeanor changed[4]. He began seeing the potential and the good he could do for the people of Cordonia without losing himself in the process. Like his brother, he had not grown up believing love was a possibility in his future, but he was still a romantic at heart and meeting you opened his eyes to the possibilities.
It is also during this time that Liam learns of his father's failing health. He comes to the realization that he would like a family of his own, a family that is atypical of Royal families, a family that is close to each other and can talk to each other. He knows time is precious, and that he would like to spend his time with the people that matter to him.
Book 2
Conspiracy Against Your Character
Unbeknownst to Liam, a conspiracy against you started when his father realized Liam had feelings towards you. Even though Liam wanted to propose to you during his coronation, scandal had erupted around you, forcing you to withdraw from the "competition". Moments before, Olivia also told him she had to leave the competition, arousing his concern and suspicion. With two out of the top three contenders eliminated, he had no choice but to propose to Madeleine to complete the terms of his coronation. He hoped by doing so he could give you and his friends enough time to discover how far the conspiracy ran and in turn clear your name. Once your name is cleared, he breaks off his engagement to Madeleine and proposes to you. Regardless of your answer, he bestows you the rank of Duchess in Cordonian nobility and grants you the duchy of Valtoria.
Book 3
Attempted Coup by the Sons of Earth
At the Homecoming Ball, marked as the end of his engagement tour with Madeleine, terrorists strike, attempting to kill both him and you. While the both of you survive, the attack has nonetheless scared the nobility and brought fear into the country. In an attempt to reassure the populace, he and those that remain at Court embark on a Unity Tour around the country. As suggested by him (if you are his fiancee) or by you or your fiance/e (if you are not), Cordonia needs a spark of hope and your wedding could be an event the country could rally behind.
During this time, Liam has self-doubts about his rule and if he is doing enough for his people, from the Cordonians in Portavira who suffered hardships due to a recent earthquake to the farmers of the Applewood orchards whose livelihoods were destroyed when the terrorists burnt down the groves. He knows he is not a superhero but allocates as much of the Crown's resources he can to Portavira and has his team employ the farmers in regrowing the orchards. To not upset the local economy, the Crown would send a stipend to the farmers to cover the difference between their usual wages and the wages they earn in the restoration.
In another attempt to kill Liam, the terrorists strike the Royal Palace during the Costume Gala. This time, however, King Father Constantine takes the brunt of the attack, glad to rather die a hero's death protecting his son than at the hands of lung cancer. Devastated by the events, Liam is resolute to continue the Unity Tour and persevere against his enemies regardless.
When the tour reaches Lythikos, it is revealed that Justin, your Press Secretary, is actually Anton Severus, the leader of the Sons of Earth, the organization behind the attacks. They wish to unseat Liam from the throne and have Anton take his place by way of a marriage contract between him and Olivia as well as an old law: "Inheritance Clauses and the Cordonian Crown". A law which states that if the Rys family produces no heir, the Crown can pass to a Nevrakis. Queen Mother Regina reasons that this must be the explanation for the Crown requiring its heirs to be engaged or married by their Coronations, one ancient law to combat another.
When Anton's men kidnap you and Olivia (and your spouse if you are not married to Liam) on your wedding day, Liam goes to meet with the Sons of Earth to negotiate for your release. They know Liam's weakness is you (and his friends) and that he would sacrifice himself for your safety. Fortunately for him, his friends help him in the fight that ensues, overpowering Anton's forces and capturing Anton in the end. For their valor, Liam bestows each of them the title of "Guardian of the Realm" and for you, the title of "Champion of the Realm". He also decides to establish the Royal Council for representatives of nobility as well as commoners to have a say in Cordonia's future. Believing that the Sons of Earth as well as the Liberation Core chose to take up arms against their government because said government failed to listen to them, Liam thinks giving the people a voice through the Royal Council will amend their mindset and bring about a new reign of peace.
The Royal Heir, Book 1 and Book 2
Auvernal Alliance
After your wedding and honeymoon, all eyes are on Liam to name an heir to the throne. If Liam is married to you, it is a pressure you both share. If he is not, he asks you and your spouse to allow the honor to fall to your future child. As Madeleine states, without an heir to the throne, Cordonia looks weak and vulnerable to other nations. Because Liam still wishes to marry for love, naming your future child his heir becomes the faster solution to the problem than falling in love and marrying someone else.
During your pregnancy, Liam supports you either as your husband or your friend. He, you, and your friends court foreign dignitaries, mainly King Bradshaw and Queen Isabella of Auvernal and Queen Amalas of Monterisso who both wish to ally with Cordonia by means of a marriage contract between one of their children and the future heir. The advantage goes to Auvernal as they take the opportunity to force Liam to sign a treaty between their two countries when you go into early labor and the palace goes into lockdown as Godfrey escapes detention for participating in the late Queen Eleanor's assassination.
Through the first few months of his heir's life, Liam and his friends try to find ways to break the treaty diplomatically without calling for war against Auvernal. When a Monterisso-type drone "attacks" Queen Isabella during the Gratitude Ball, Liam is pressured by the Royal Council to accept military protection from Auvernal despite personally feeling that Queen Amalas wasn't behind the attack. It takes finding leverage against Auvernal about their children's biological mother to release Cordonia from the marriage alliance, and he follows your cues on how to release said information.
The Royal Heir, Book 3
Power-Play by Barthelemy Beaumont
Shortly before your daughter's first birthday, Barthelemy Beaumont surprises Liam and his friends by calling forth a Conventus Nobilis, negating most of the Royal Council's voices if they are not Heads of their respective Great Houses. He reasons that Liam is not doing his duties as King and brings up the unwanted alliance with Auvernal as an example, which threatened Cordonia's future. As the grandfather of the heir -either biologically or due to your ties to House Beaumont- he asks that the Great Houses vote to remove Liam from power and that you and your spouse resign custody of the heir to him. Liam tells him that because he is missing House Nevrakis's vote, the motion fails and he cannot claim the right to be Regent nor can he claim custody of your daughter. Barthelemy counters that another vote will take place in a few months where only a majority vote is needed.
During those few months, Liam and his friends try to win the favor - and therefore also the majority of their votes - of the Great Houses by visiting each of them. However, no matter how successful Liam and friends are in their task, Barthelemy enacts his contingency plan to win the vote by reviving House Vescovi through Cedric Vescovi and having Lucretia Nevrakis vote in Olivia's stead.
But even with his reign questioned and the vote ousting him from his position, Liam, along with his friends, continues to investigate Barthelemy. When news of Godfrey's involvement in his mother's death came to light the previous year, Liam doesn't believe the former Duke acted alone. It brought to mind too many curious tidbits from his childhood, how his mother wanted Cordonia to ally with her former home of Auvernal and how his father did not even want to discuss it as the majority of Great Houses opposed such a notion; how Hana's own mother did not want to bring her to Cordonia during those tempestuous times just as well as both Bianca and Leona remembering Eleanor's fear and later Constantine's anger and paranoia.
Liam is livid when Olivia eventually informs him of Barthelemy's involvement in Eleanor's death. However, and because they still have no tangible proof and it would just be one person's word against another's, Liam and his friends journey back to Auvernal to extradite Godfrey. Returning to Cordonia in time for Barthelemy's coronation, you expose Barthelemy to the assembled press and public as the murderer he is, and bring about his arrest by the King's Guard. With Barthelemy's claims for the crown now invalidated, Liam resumes his title as King and his heir returns to her rightful place with her family. Over the next two years, he and Cordonia begin to heal.

Your Character
Liam meets you while on his bachelor party in New York with his friends Maxwell, Tariq, and Drake, where you are his waitress. When you get ready to close the bar, he approaches you and apologizes for his friends' difficult demands. He tells you that they'd like to go somewhere but are unfamiliar with the city, so you offer to take them to a club or a quiet beach. Later, you can choose to take him to see the Statue of Liberty where you can share a sweet moment with him.
The next day, Maxwell catches you outside of work. He tells you that he can see the strong connection between the Prince and you, and offers to sponsor you and bring you to Cordonia to join the Prince's other suitors. Since Maxwell doesn’t have a sister, he chooses you to represent his family's Noble House in the "competition". Even if you don't spend extra time with him in Book 1, he falls in love with you and wants to propose to you at his Coronation. When he is unable to do that, throughout Book 2, he tries to maintain a relationship with you, even if you keep things formal and platonic. If you spend time with him in the Grotto, he tells you he would abdicate the throne for you. If you spend time with him in Paris, he says he would run away with you to keep you safe. He will propose to you in Book 2, Chapter 16.
Your relationship with him is determined by your answer to his proposal. If you refuse and tell him that you are in love with Drake, Maxwell, or Hana, he will be devastated but still happy for you and his friend. He still feels you are important for Cordonia, and tells you that he will make you a Duchess and you will be given lands. Throughout Book 3, he is sad when he sees you with your fiance/e but still keeps his head high and a smile plastered on his face. If Drake is your fiance, he agrees to be his Best Man at the wedding; if Maxwell or Hana is your fiance, Liam will officiate the ceremony. When you are kidnapped by Anton's men, he goes to trade his life for yours and your spouse.
In The Royal Heir, Book 1, he offers you and your spouse his private island to spend your honeymoon. Later, he asks to name your future child his heir. In Book 2, he is forced to sign a treaty with Auvernal to get the doctor to you as soon as possible during your labor.
If you accept his proposal, he tells you that by Cordonia custom, you will be made a Duchess and given lands. When terrorists threaten Cordonia, you two use your engagement tour as a Unity Tour to visit the Noble Houses and rally the people. At your wedding, because he cannot officiate, you get the option of Queen Mother Regina or his brother Leo. Naturally, when you are kidnapped by Anton's men, he goes to trade his life for you.
In The Royal Heir, Book 1, you honeymoon with him in his private island. He tells you because you two are in the public eye, they expect to see a child soon. He wants a family too, but is worried about the stress put on you. When you become pregnant, he is thrilled and does everything he can for you. During your pregnancy, you both have to maneuver between potential political alliances between Cordonia and Auvernal and Monterisso. In Book 2 however, Auvernal forces their hand and he is forced to sign a treaty and marriage contract between your child and one of theirs.
In Book 3, to celebrate your win against Barthelemy Beaumont, he pulls strings to have a star named after you. You can help name it "Riley Regia the Beloved, the Undefeated, or the Irresistibly Sexy", although its scientific name is V254 Argus.
European Guy (Leo)
He is Liam's older half-brother. The Royal Romance, Book 1 occurs after the events of Rules of Engagement, Book 2 where European Guy abdicates the throne of Cordonia as his heart was set elsewhere. Liam finds himself next in line to the Cordonian throne. He is occasionally mentioned by Liam. In Rules of Engagement, Book 3, Chapter 1, if Main Character (Rules of Engagement) is engaged to Leo, he tells her that he has to miss their first meeting with the wedding planner because he has to help Liam prepare for a meeting with the French ambassador. In Chapter 17, Liam is unable to attend the wedding, instead sending Leo a letter congratulating his brother and new wife, saying that he can't wait to meet his new sister-in-law and tell her all the stories of Leo embarrassing himself at court.
According to Leo, when they were children, Liam went through a phase where he wouldn't stop poorly whistling the tune to The Andy Griffith Show. It drove them crazy but Constantine put up with it as he got along better with Liam than Leo. During one of their summers at Applewood Manor, Liam hid from their parents because he didn't want to leave. Leo took the blame even though Liam told him that he didn't want his older brother to get in trouble. Leo said he was always in trouble so a little more wouldn't hurt. Leo said, "A duck in the pond doesn't mind the rain. It's already wet." Leo persuaded Constantine to buy a claw/crane machine for the palace, and he would put Liam’s things in it, like his toothbrush, favorite stuffed dragon, and his crown, so Liam had to play the machine to win his things back. When they and their parents took a diplomatic trip to Morocco, Leo told everyone that Liam loved chicken tagine even though he hated it. Since it was rude to turn down whatever their hosts would serve, Liam was forced to eat chicken tagine often... to the point that he grew to love it. Liam retaliated some way involving fireworks going off in the boutique. The prank war ended when Leo accidentally locked a visiting earl's son in a closet, thinking he was Liam.
Before the events of Rules of Engagement, Book 1, while Leo was still Crown Prince, he and Liam met Bradshaw & Isabella at a summit in Athens. When the King and Queen of Auvernal insulted Liam, Leo was ready to punch Bradshaw but Liam interceded and embarrassed the Auvernese for their behavior. Leo told Liam that it takes tact and cunning to lie in a bed of snakes and avoid a bite. If Leo had punched Bradshaw, it would have been in the newspapers, Cordonia would have had to issue a formal apology and Constantine would have never let Leo hear the end of it.
Approximately a year before the events of The Royal Romance, Book 2, Leo and Liam swam at the Blue Grotto. Liam had found a pearl and Leo told him it would win the heart of any woman he gave it to. Liam hid the pearl away, figuring he would find it again once he found someone he wanted to give it to.
Constantine
Constantine Rys is Liam's father. As stated in Rules of Engagement, even though he is King, his wife has more pull and influence when it comes to the populace. In The Royal Romance, Book 2, when Liam discovers his father's role in the conspiracy against you, he is both saddened and angry by Constantine's actions. He orders Constantine to give you the help you need to find Tariq, reminding his father that he (Liam) is the new king.
In Book 3, Liam is affected by Constantine's death and misses him dearly. He remembers when he was a child, finding his father in the throne room. Liam would sneak over by the curtains to peek at his father while Constantine was conducting business. Constantine couldn't halt proceedings, but he would always spot Liam and wink. In The Royal Heir, Liam admits that Constantine was never a warm figure all the time.
Eleanor
Liam's mother was the second wife of Constantine and the former Queen of Cordonia. She was poisoned by the enemies when he was still young. Drake mentioned that Liam's mother was 'lowly' in Book 3, Chapter 3, which implies that Liam's mother was a commoner. In a premium choice in Book 3, Chapter 6, Liam revealed that his mother wasn't a native of Cordonia. His strongest memory of her is when she brought him to the city and sat at the steps of an old library as she read his favorite story to him. She also loved books.
Regina
Regina Rys is Liam's step-mother. He considers her to be a “wonderful woman,” and she in turn was worried about how Leo’s abdication would burden him. Nevertheless, Regina agreed with Constantine that Liam was a better fit for the throne.
Bastien
Bastien is Liam's bodyguard when Leo abdicates and once he becomes King. Liam trusts him as his bodyguard but when his involvement in the conspiracy against you is revealed, Liam is angry and unsure where his loyalties lie. Bastien explains it was not personal and it was under orders from then-King Constantine, but as Liam is his new king, he will follow Liam's orders henceforth. Liam forgives him.
In The Royal Finale when it is revealed that Bastien is a member of the Via Imperii and indirectly caused Jackson Walker's death, Liam relieves him from duty and has Mara arrest him. He is angry and upset by this betrayal, realizing that Bastien has been feeding information about them to their enemies.
Drake
Drake is Liam's best friend. He and Drake got into a lot of mischief when they were younger. He got lost while camping while Drake caused a palace lockdown while they were playing Hide-and-Seek, causing the game to be banned from then on. They also broke a part of a chandelier when they were playing soccer inside since it was raining outside. They would also bet each other push-ups; the loser had to do push-ups with the winner on his back. When they were teenagers, they thought about getting tattoos to bend the rules a little and get something that would be 'his'. In the end though, they didn't.
In The Royal Romance Book 3, he chooses Drake as his best man if you marry him. If you marry Drake, he'll agree to be Drake's best man instead.
In The Royal Heir, Drake reveals that Liam went through a 1 to 2 week phase where he wore his crown everywhere when they were children. Liam's parents also let him sleep over in the Walker family's quarters once or twice. Liam was so proud to help Bianca microwave leftovers; he thought he was "cooking". Drake also taught Liam how to drive, and there may or may not be a royal golf cart in one of the capital's ponds.
Olivia
Olivia and Prince (now King) Liam are childhood friends who grew up together at the Royal Palace. When he and the Royal family had visited Lythikos, he convinced his family to bring her back with them since she was all alone. For months, she would not leave his side (to Drake's annoyance). In Book 1, she is one of the top three suitors for Prince Liam and honestly loves him. He, however, does not appear to reciprocate her romantic feelings. In Chapter 8, he is stunned when she kisses him publicly at the Winter Ball, and asks her to speak with him privately afterwards. In Book 2, Chapter 10, when she hastily leaves him with you at the Queen Mother's tea party, he doesn't understand. It is not until Book 3 and only if you do not choose Liam as your fiance and later husband, that he begins to single her out among the other ladies. He asks her to dance at your bachelorette party in Chapter 16 and at the ball after the Guardians and Champion of the Realm ceremony in Chapter 22. She also mentions that he invited her to dinner after the ceremony to finalize her annulment from Anton.
In The Royal Holiday and The Royal Heir, regardless if Liam is your spouse or not, neither Liam nor Olivia appear romantically attracted or interested in each other. In Holiday, she regards his life as more important than hers due to their stations in life as he is the king of the country. She can also give him an expectant look to nudge him into singing Lythikan holiday songs. In Book 1, Chapter 17, at her duchy, he points out to her that he can tell when she's lying.
In the end of The Royal Finale, Olivia is appointed to Captain of the King's Guard. She tells you that she and Liam have been working to rebuild the King's Guard from the ground up. If you are not married to Liam, you can encourage her to give herself a fresh start with Liam. It has been approximately 5 years since the events of The Royal Romance and both of them have matured and past feelings could have evolved and changed. If you encourage her, she asks him to dance and he agrees.
Madeleine
At the end of Book 1, Liam unwillingly proposes to Madeleine, who accepts happily. As he explains later, he chose her because she has no romantic feelings towards him and doesn't care about what he does behind closed doors and in private. Shortly before his coronation, she came to his room to propose such an arrangement, that he could choose her and have the best of both worlds - her as Queen and you as his lover. Liam didn't agree to the arrangement then, but found himself doing so when the scandal erupted and you were forced out of the competition. Though the timing and sequence of events seemed suspicious, he had no proof of her being involved in the conspiracy against you; so he bought himself time by entering the engagement with her.
In return for choosing her as his fiancee, he asked her to bring Hana back to Court, to help her find an advantageous match to appease her parents. Even though that would also be a "cover" for Hana, it was something Madeleine could do for him.
In public, Liam tried to do his best to look happy with Madeleine. While lying came natural to her, Liam appeared stiff and serious and Regina told him he had to change or the public would question the engagement. Liam decided then to pretend Madeleine was you, that you were by his side and holding his arm during public appearances. The image of you made him relax in front of the public.
In Book 2, Chapter 15, after you successfully clear your name, Liam breaks off his engagement to Madeleine. She is naturally upset, but her love for Cordonia transcends her feelings towards individuals. She later finds her place in Cordonia's government as the Royal Communications Director.
Lena
Lena is Liam's younger sister, whose existence was hidden from him and his family since their mother's death. Although in The Royal Heir, he discovered Eleanor was pregnant when he was young, he assumed the child had died with her when she was assassinated. When Eirik and Lena reveal her identity in Finale, Chapter 2, he is shocked. Regardless of the advice you and your friends give him, he is interested in developing a relationship with her and "saving" her from the Via Imperii. When her identity of being "The Fist" is revealed, he is discouraged but still wants to attempt to sway her.
In Chapter 9, he tells you that he doesn't trust her completely, but he doesn't believe she would endanger you. When you are trapped in a gondola with her, she tells you that Liam doesn't deserve Cordonia's throne, and only became king due to birthright, because he was born second and his older brother abdicated. She believes that he is pretending to be nice because he has no choice. When you argue on Liam's behalf, she is hesitant and is also conflicted in her feelings.
