Marshal Keane, a character in the Witness: A Bodyguard Romance book, is a U.S. Marshal and your character's bodyguard and love interest. His/Her suggested name is "Cassian" but the player can choose a name for him/her. He/She is first seen in Chapter 1.

The player can choose the gender as well as the look of Cassian.
Personality
Marshal Keane tells you that it usually takes him/her a while to trust someone before letting them into his/her home, making it appear that he/she is usually a guarded individual. Keane is a hard worker and diligent, as he/she was taught since youth to make something out of himself/herself.
Background
Marshal Keane worked various jobs before moving to the United States from Ireland, such as cleaning out gutters, repairing air conditioning units, and fixing motorcycles. One year before his/her family left Ireland, his/her father died rescuing others during a storm. His dream was to start his own deep sea fishing business. When their visas were approved, Marshal Keane's mother decided to take all her children to the United States anyways. She did not want to stay in Ireland with the memories of her late husband and instead, wanted to move forward. However, they still own the property in Ireland and didn't sell it. Even though the area is run-down, it still stands less than 45 miles away from Galway.
Before joining the Marshals, Keane worked in the Boston Police Department's organized crime unit. He/she spent a year undercover with the O'Connells investigating the Irish mob. It was difficult in the beginning to infiltrate the family; being Irish helped, but he/she still had to do things to prove himself/herself. Those things changed Keane for a while and were the reason he/she joined the Marshals.

Tomas Otto is Marshal Keane's supervisor.
Your Character
You first meet Marshal Keane at a bar. Afterwards your character decides to go back to his/her place where you have the premium option to become intimate or just kiss. You fall asleep on Keane's bed, waking before s/he does, and leave. Outside his/her place, you hear Killian and Maeve O'Connell threaten and kill Sean Kelly, and you call the police to help.
In Chapter 2, Marshal Keane is assigned to you as the U.S. Marshal protecting you while you are in the Witness Security (Witsec) Program. S/He asks that you keep your previous history with him/her a secret, or else Otto will pull him/her from the case. It is a chance for Keane to get a huge promotion, and you agree to it. His/her cover is your work exchange contractor, and s/he will be bunking on the pullout couch of your small house in Nantucket.
Killian & Maeve O'Connell
In Chapter 9, Marshal Keane admits to knowing Killian & Maeve O'Connell. When he/she worked for the Boston Police Department, Keane spent a year undercover with the Irish Mob. They made Keane do things he/she does not want to describe but made him/her want to join the Marshals afterwards. Keane feels that his/her time with them gives him/her insight into their patterns and their way of thinking. In Chapter 13, he/she gets injured by a gunshot from Maeve meant for you.

- S/He is the first love interest whose hair can be chosen by the player.
- The character's default first name, Cassian, is of Latin origin and means "hollow". The last name, Keane, is of Gaelic origin and means "descendant of Cathán".
