Eli, a character in the Wake the Dead book, is a vagrant and one of your love interests. He is first seen in Chapter 2.

Appearance

Eli has very short black hair with the sides of his head shaved, Brown eyes, a small beard, tanned skin, and multiple scars across his face. He wears a grey bandana around his neck, a golden ripped shirt with brown sleeves, and brown leather gloves. He also wears several belts around his grey pants, with a knife and a rope attached to them.

Personality

Eli is a fighter and survivor, having been one of the only people actually prepared for an apocalypse. He is a loner and doesn't socialize much, making him appear intimidating at first glance. As he survived the post-outbreak world, he has become a skilled marksman with his bow, as he is able to shoot a zombie in the eye at 200 yards.

As Angel puts it, Eli lacks pizazz, drama, and flair, as he usually opts to go with the most straight-forward and efficient tactic to get the job done.

Background

Eli survived with his parents and his brother in a cabin not too far away from the Tower, where they employed a daily routine of keeping zombies off their property. But once Eli lost his family to the zombies, he became unwilling to leave the cabin since he believed it was all he had left. He later tells you in a premium scene that his whole family was attacked while he was away and he had to shoot them all to prevent them from turning.

In another premium scene of Chapter 18, you can ask him more about his family. If asked about his brother, he mentions that his brother was a few years younger than him, around your age now. Eli describes him as someone who wasn't meant for this life (after the outbreak). When you realize that like your sister, Eli was old enough to remember life before the outbreak, he will tell you that the old world wasn't the perfect place everyone assumes it was. He points out that people were divided by money, class, and race. His mother was White and his father was Black and Eli experienced racism towards his family first-hand.

Your Character

During your first encounter with him, he helps you fight the drones chasing you just before threatening to kill you and asking you to leave his territory. However, after seeing your sister's injuries, he decides to let you rest in his cabin. When the drones find his cabin and begin their onslaught, he refuses to leave since the cabin holds a lot of memories for him. You can either force him to leave or persuade him to leave by grabbing his family's last mementos.

When he is bitten, you risk your life in a trial of the Raiders in order to form an alliance and get the medicine to cure him. When you give him the medicine, he loses control and no longer recognizes you, making you wonder if it's too late and if he has already turned. You then have the hard choice to either shoot him or try to get through to him. The former results in you firing your gun but missing him. He comes out of his berserk attack mode, and is shocked that you tried to kill him. When you explain that you thought he had turned, he tells you that he understands but asks why you didn't shoot him earlier when he had asked you to at the time of injury. The latter results in him attacking you until you fall unconscious. When you gain consciousness again, he has also recovered but feels guilty that he wounded you. Days later, he says in a premium scene that if he'd left more than a bruise, he could have never forgiven himself; he cares more about you than he should and he cannot lose someone else the way he lost his family.

Your Sister

They seemed to have an understanding regarding protecting their loved ones, which he later thanked for her sacrifices by dragging you out of the tunnel. After your sister's death, he seems to have taken over as the group's leader.
