Dolores Hudson, a character in the Open Heart series, was a patient at Edenbrook and Ethan Ramsey's good friend. She is first seen in Book 1, Chapter 4.
Appearance
Dolores has fair skin, hazel eyes and long dark brown hair. She wears a blue hospital robe, and orange nail polish.
Personality
Dolores can be described as nice, kind and cheerful. She's also very funny because she likes teasing Ethan and others, but at the same time, she's very protective of her baby. She says that she prefers to wait rather than have the baby prematurely.

Your Character
She becomes your patient when Rafael brings her into the emergency room and she is admitted with smoke inhalation. When you mention her name to Dr. Ramsey, he comes along and the three of you converse briefly. She realizes that she lost a stuffed frog toy that she just bought during her lunch break, and you have the chance to offer to go with Ethan and retrieve it. Before you leave (if you decide to get the frog), you and Dr. Ramsey become concerned with her blood pressure, and decide to run tests. Upon your return, you discover that she has preeclampsia (characterized by high blood pressure in pregnancy and protein in her urine), which you tell her is dangerous for the baby. You explain that preeclampsia affects the arteries carrying blood to the placenta, and that her baby may receive inadequate blood and oxygen and fewer nutrients. She is fearful that her baby would not be able to survive being born premature and refuses to have surgery, asking for as much time as possible.
Ethan Ramsey
When Ethan finds out that Dolores is your patient, he comes with you to check on her. It is revealed that they are good friends, and that Dolores was Ethan's very first patient when he was an intern. She came in with a burst appendix, and because she was freaked out, Ethan calmed her down and they kept in touch for a bit over the years.
If you decide to find her stuffed frog toy with Ethan, he tells you that he and Dolores have known each other for over 10 years, and that when he emailed her for the first time, it was just to check in. This led to chats over coffee, more emails, then meetings every couple of months for Sunday roast. Ethan mentions that he was very grateful for their friendship because he didn't make friends easily.
