Demetrius, a character in the Bloodbound series, is Rheya's former betrothed, and the First Feral. In life, he was a merchant and Rheya's trusted counsel after she ascended her throne. He makes his first appearance in a flashback of Book 3, Chapter 2, and his first official appearance in Chapter 12.

Appearance

Demetrius has black curly hair, brown eyes, fair skin and beard. He wears a white toga with gold patterns.

Personality

He is seen to love his family and he can be described as wise as he advised Rheya about her rule.

When he was Turned and became a Feral, Demetrius did not speak at all. He was a hollow shell unable to feel, unable to love.

As the Tree of Eternal Death, he is able to communicate psychically to those who are attuned to him. In such communication, he speaks in cryptic metaphors, even when he is aware that metaphors aren't the best way to speak. He is also incapable of lying.

Relationships

Rheya Apostolous

Demetrius and Rheya had a loving relationship, and they were seen raising their daughter Iola even after Rheya became a vampire and took over the kingdom of Mydiea. They were always close. When the Sons of Ares attacked their village, Demetrius was killed, stabbed through the side by a spear. Rheya found him and tried to resurrect him[1], but he had been dead too long and thus came back "wrong". He became the first Feral, a walking plague who radiated death everywhere he went. Even Rheya with all her strength as the first Vampire couldn't stand being around him for long periods of time. She tried locking him up, but eventually set him free. Demetrius then took a boat and sailed off to an abandoned island in the South Pacific. Despite all the atrocities she committed afterwards, Demetrius tells you that he still loved her[2].

Iola

Iola is Demetrius's daughter. They have a loving relationship, and they are always staying together and close to Rheya, until she is killed by burning by the Sons of Ares. In Book 3, Chapter 14, it turned out Iola was alive and kidnapped by the Sons of Ares and raised by them to find how to defeat Rheya. She lived out her natural live, got married, and had a child that began the beginning of the Bloodkeeper lines.

Your Character

Demetrius is able to sense all Bloodkeepers, and thus, is aware of you. He allows you to come close to him and grants you permission to take his blood to use as you see fit. He informs you that your visions, and the visions of all other Bloodkeepers, are connecting with him, and that he was the one sending you the visions. He refers to you as "Granddaughter" and considers you special, as you are the first Bloodkeeper to have been Turned.

Powers and Abilities

  • Immortality: In Book 1, Chapter 2, Adrian confirms that he does not age. Thus we can assume the same can be said for Demetrius and all the Ferals.
  • Super-Strength: In Book 1, Chapter 2, Adrian confirms that he is strong enough to lift a car. The same can be said for all Ferals, Demetrius included.
  • Heightened Senses: In Book 1, Chapter 6, Lily mentions how she can feel the slightest air currents, how she can even see the tiniest pores in Your Character's skin and can hear the water running through the pipes three stories up. Thus we can assume the same can be said for all Ferals including Demetrius.
  • Pestilence: As Gaius mentions, Demetrius has the ability to turn humans and vampires Feral without touching them. He radiates death like a walking plague and whoever touches his blood can become Feral; Rheya included. Due to that, the island he lives on is slowly killing everyone. [3]
  • Precognition[4] and Retrocognition[5]: His roots reach deep into the world and he sits on the precipice between life and death. He has seen the past and the possible futures. When he stares at the world, sometimes the world stares back at him; and people with psychic abilities gain glimpses of what he sees (which they then call "visions").

Weaknesses

  • Unknown: as a Feral, it is assumed that Sunlight, Decapitation, and Heart Extraction would lead to his death. However, because Demetrius is a tree - specifically the Tree of Eternal Death - he lacks the head and heart that could succumb to the latter two.
