Relationships

Main Character

He is Main Character's father who doesn't like the first outfit she tries on for school. As she puts it, she is his 'golden girl' unlike Mackenzie, and as such, he has high expectations of her. In Chapter 10, he asks Main Character about her opinion on Mackenzie's behavior after he discovers the spray paint in her room. Even if Main Character defends her, he still compares his two daughters to each other and appears disappointed in her. That night, Main Character has a cheer exhibition at the same time Bad Boy suggests to have a date. While she doesn't feel like going to the exhibition, her father promised to be there so she cancels the date. However, when he cannot make it, Main Character decides that if he can skip it, so can she. When he texts her that he made it to the cheer exhibition after all, she texts him back and lies that she's studying at home.

In Chapter 13, if Main Character corrects Linda when she calls Mackenzie "Madeline", he will tell his oldest daughter to be more polite.

In Chapter 25, when the police arrive (and if Main Character is black), she and Mackenzie remember his advice to never run from the police. He repeatedly told them to stay calm, keep their hands empty, and don't give the police a reason to believe that they are threatening.

In Chapter 76, he gives Main Character a camera for Christmas. Since hers was damaged beyond repair, he bought her a new one. It is her choice to use it or keep using her mother's old camera.

Mackenzie Price

In Chapter 10, when he discovers the spray paint in her room, he orders her to clean the house.

In Chapter 67, it is mentioned that he and Mackenzie will be sharing a room at the Jennings's winter cabin. Best Friend teases Mac that she better have noise-canceling headphones ready since his snoring is legendary, but he protests that the nose strips he wears helps reduce the volume.

In Chapter 76, he gives Mackenzie canvases and new paints for Christmas.

June

Dave proposed to June when he was a little over 18 years old. He says that she made him fearless and he thinks she was "the one" for him. She brought out his best self.

When Main Character remembers her mother, she says that she had a way to get Dave to ease up and he was more relaxed around her. Dave thinks that Main Character following her mother's footsteps in cheerleading would make her proud.

It is mentioned that paying for her treatment used up all of the family's savings, even though he has a well-paying job as a doctor.

Jim Jennings

Your dad and Principal Jennings are old friends. Even though Main Character's family and the Jennings used to be close when they were younger, they hadn't kept in touch after Dave's wife passed away.

Bad Boy

In Chapter 12, Main Character and Bad Boy quickly rush back home and lie to him, pretending that she is tutoring Bad Boy in history. When Bad Boy leaves, her father warns her about him.
