The Oakley-Mendoza feud started in 1889 when his great-great-grandfather had a prize steer that went missing. Oakley blamed Mendoza for stealing the steer because the Mendoza's breeding stock got significantly better after that. Anna-Marie said they did not steal the steer but Oakley stole their best cow.

Trivia
- In Book 1, Chapter 4, it is mentioned that he has a heart condition. This is expanded upon in Book 1, Chapter 9, when he appears to be having a heart attack. In Book 2, Chapter 8, Cliff tells the MC that he's dying, this may be related to his heart condition.
- In Book 1, Chapter 11, it is revealed that he had an older brother named John who died in a car crash when he was 19.
- In Book 2, Chapter 5, Cliff mentions that he tried to use a computer once in the 90s, but he got so irritated by a talking paper clip that he stopped. This is a reference to Clippit, an assistant in Microsoft Word.
- His late wife's name is revealed to be Adelaide in a (premium) scene in Book 2, Chapter 14.
