Childhood Crush

Childhood Crush, a character in the My Two First Loves book, is your childhood friend and one of your love interests. He is a student at Eastridge High. His default name is "Mason" but the player can pick a name for him. He is first seen in Chapter 1.

Appearance

Childhood Crush's look is determined by the player. Regardless of the choice, he wears a red and cream jacket with the letter "E" printed on the right side of the jacket, a gray t-shirt, and dark blue jeans. His new cologne is a fancy French one called Vetyver.

Main Character

"I know nothing bad is going to happen to me as long as you're here. I hope you know I'd do anything for you, too. We've got a bond. We always have."

Main Character and Childhood Crush have been friends for many years and he comforted her when her mother died. She has had a crush on him for a long time. When she is about to confess her feelings for him, he reveals that he has a girlfriend but doesn't say who. Main Character only finds out in Chapter 2 when Best Friend calls him her boyfriend.

In Chapter 6, after seeing him lying on the football field, Main Character is reminded of a time when they were ten years old and they went exploring in the woods. Because she was hungry and thinking she'd "starve to death" before they got back to his dad's house, "Childhood Crush" climbed a tree to get her an apple and then fell down. If Main Character decides to keep him conscious, she talks to him about it. He tells her that he wanted her to like him more. From the way she rushed over to see if he was okay, he could tell how worried she was and that she cared about him. According to him, this was the moment he knew that they'd always be there for each other. In Chapter 9, he invites Main Character to a morning jog and confides in her about a problem he faces while dating Best Friend. He also warns her to be careful when it comes to Bad Boy but doesn't go into detail.

In Chapter 17, during a game of Suck n' Blow, the card drops when it's her turn which leads to an accidental kiss between them. In Chapter 22, he reveals that he has ended his relationship with Best Friend to be with Main Character.

In Chapter 33, it is up to Main Character if Bad Boy or Childhood Crush becomes the quarterback for the Homecoming game but either way, both impress the audience during the game and later Childhood Crush is chosen to be the recipient of a football scholarship. While this bodes well for Childhood Crush and his dreams of playing football for the Air Force Academy, it angers Bad Boy who feels that Principal Jennings's biased opinion of him swayed the recruiter.

Main Character also choose whether he or Bad Boy becomes her Homecoming date. If she chooses Childhood Crush as her Homecoming date, he will show acceptance that she also has feelings for Bad Boy after the latter approaches and gets physically close to her, emotionally confusing her. In a premium scene, she can choose to use the photo booth where there's an option to kiss for the final photo. When Childhood Crush and Bad Boy come to blows over the scholarship, she tells them that she cannot handle their fighting any more and decide to end her relationships with both of them.

In Chapter 66, during Winter Break, he admits to himself that he has always felt Main Character's family was more like "his family" than his parents could be. He felt the warmth and acceptance from her parents and her sister and was more comfortable with her family than his own.

Before prom, when Main Character has to come to a final decision on who she would like to be with, he is ecstatic if she chooses him.

If she chooses someone else, he is heartbroken. Although he would like to keep their friendship platonic, he tells her that he can only see her as the girl he was head over heels for in love with someone else. He believes he loved her as much as one person can love another: wholeheartedly, completely, and without conditions. She can try to ease the hurt by giving him a gift, and at prom, he acts as if nothing is wrong.

Six months later, after graduating high school, Childhood Crush picks her up from her college and drives her back to Eastridge. Their romance (if she chose him) or friendship (if she did not) resumes and he brings her to Best Friend's studio's dance recital.

Best Friend

In Chapter 2, it is revealed that Best Friend is dating him. In Chapter 9, Childhood Crush confesses when they are in public, she will throw herself all over him, but when they are alone, she is not in the mood to make out, which makes him ask about her inconsistency. Main Character can encourage Childhood Crush to talk to Best Friend or surmise Best Friend is not actually into him.

In Chapter 16, he texts Main Character that Best Friend is stressed about her party decorations and that when he tried to kiss her, she snapped at him for distracting her. When he accidentally kisses Main Character in Chapter 17, it puts further strain on their relationship. In Chapter 22, he reveals that he has ended his relationship with Best Friend to be with Main Character.

Bad Boy

It is rumored that Bad Boy once robbed Childhood Crush's house. In Chapter 4, they seem to have a bad relationship, especially since they are on the same football team and both of them want to be the quarterback. In Chapter 5, Bad Boy tackles him hard, spraining his shoulder.

In Chapter 9, Childhood Crush warns Main Character about him, stating that he personally knew Bad Boy in freshman year and that the latter is bad news, but doesn't go into detail. In Chapter 22, when he sees Bad Boy tending to her injured arm, he mistakenly believes the latter is the one who caused her injury and he tackles Bad Boy.

If Main Character chooses Childhood Crush as her Homecoming date, Bad Boy will interrupt their dance at the end of Chapter 35, which emotionally confuses her. If she tells Bad Boy in Chapter 36 that she wants to dance with her actual date, Childhood Crush cringes and gives them a moment alone to talk things through. Bad Boy uses the opportunity to get physically close and tells her that he won't give up fighting for her. When Childhood Crush asks Main Character instead of Lauren to dance with him when crowned Homecoming king, Bad Boy will chime in that Childhood Crush is afraid of losing Main Character if he leaves her alone for one dance.

When a scout for college football teams offers Childhood Crush the football scholarship, Bad Boy is angry, thinking that it wasn't due to merit but due to Principal Jennings's biased remarks. The two boys fight despite Main Character's protests, only to stop when Principal Jennings arrives and Main Character tells them both that she's not going to continue a relationship with either of them.

Dad

Childhood Crush's father is Principal Jennings. They appear to have a standard father-son relationship but Main Character does not see much affection from either side as Principal Jennings usually runs the school with an "iron fist" and she mainly sees them interact at school. She can tell Principal Jennings appears proud of his son, but Childhood Crush tells her that he also feels pressured to perform just like his dad did.

Their relationship takes a turn for the worse when his father finds out that he snuck out of the house in order to help Main Character take a photo of the sunrise. She witnesses how he destroys Childhood Crush's airplane models in front of the house. In Chapter 62, Main Character and Childhood Crush can try to evade him at the silent auction in a premium scene. If they don't, he will catch them and be annoyed that they are still friends.

When his acceptance into the Air Force Academy is rescinded, Childhood Crush decides to apply to the Naval Academy. He tells his father that he was accepted on his own merits.

If the default name is kept, he will share the same first name as Mason Dalton and Mason Sr. from The Nanny Affair, Book 1, as well as Mason from Rules of Engagement, Book 2, the father of Grace Hall from Endless Summer.
