Big Bads are the main antagonists in a book or an entire series. In most cases, they could be considered the nemesis of the protagonist.
While they could be classified under the textbook definition of "villains", the Villains category is reserved for the Big Bads' underlings or other secondary or tertiary characters who are not the main antagonists of their respective book(s) and/or series.
