What are some of the key personality traits of Cas in the Immortal Desires series?
Appearance
Cas's gender and looks are determined by the player. All character models have two or three red marks on their arms but the shape and exact positions differ depending on gender.
In Book 2, Chapter 7, female Cas is described as being about 5'6" while male Cas is about 5'11".
Personality
Cas can be described as funny, rebellious, sarcastic, and has the overall vibe of a bad boy/girl. From what is seen and from what others say, Cas likes picking fights, and he/she is usually cold and distant with other people, except with you. He/she also doesn't like showcasing emotions because he/she feels that this will ruin his/her bad boy/girl persona, and at times, he/she is shown to have no problem with taking human lives. Underneath that tough exterior however, Cas is truthful, and very protective of the people he/she cares about. This can be seen from how protective he/she is of you, and from how he/she took the fall for Seth.
Background
- "I bounced around a lot from place to place. Made it kinda hard to have friends, and that makes you an easy target. [...] I was scared all the time. Of getting made fun of, pushed around. When you're powerless, you learn that fighting back just makes it worse. I hated it. And I hated myself, too. So I survived the only way I could. [...] I was desperate to erase the part of me that was weak and scared. The kind of desperate you only know if you've spent your whole life getting bullied."
- —Cas to Your Character[1]
Not much is known about Cas's background prior or after him/her becoming a vampire, but Gabe says that he/she is fairly young. What's more, Cas says that before he/she became a vampire, he/she used to work in an ice-cream shop.
It’s revealed in Book 2 that Cas is a foster child and had bounced around many foster homes in different towns, causing him/her to switch schools frequently. This also resulted in him/her no longer trying to find friends, assuming that since none of his/her foster homes wanted to keep him/her, there must have been a reason. He/She was forced to switch schools again when moving to Crimson Beech in the middle of his/her senior year of high school which is where he/she met a group of fellow students, Denise, Penny, and Sam. He/She started to trust Denise completely, thinking she was his/her friend. However, Denise stole a book from Cas, which was the only thing he/she had left from his/her family and hence his/her most prized possession. A fight ensued in which Cas didn't stand a chance until two vampires - Claire and George - came to Cas' defense. Seeing how Cas yelled at George for calling Cas a kid, Claire and George were impressed enough for them to reveal their nature as vampires to Cas, to become his/her sponsors in the coven, and to advocate for Astoria and Lewyn to turn him/her into a vampire. In the next chapter, Cas reveals that his/her childhood home is in Crimson Beech and that as a child, Cas collected comic books, wanting to be a superhero. Cas also tells you that he/she begged Claire and George to turn him/her, thinking that as a vampire, no one would be able to push him/her around anymore.

Relationships
Your Character
You meet Cas while he/she is having a fight with another student. He/she shows up at the party in the woods again later, and you can play musical chairs with him/her, Gabe, and his/her friends. Shortly after, you discover that he/she's a vampire after seeing him/her chasing a girl in the woods, and because of that, you are taken to the Nexus to testify as a witness to his/her trial. Regardless of your testimony, Cas is found guilty. Despite the rough introduction between the two of you, you get closer, become friends, and hang out regularly.
Cas also defends you against members of his/her own coven, and saves you during the attack at the gym by stopping Gabe from feasting on you. After your trial at the Nexus concludes, you can have Cas escort you home, visit the ice-cream shop, and share your first kiss. In the following chapter, Cas introduces you to Seth, and when you realize that it's Seth he/she was covering for at the night you first met, Cas makes you promise you won't tell anyone about it.
When your mother starts getting closer to the truth about the murders, you, Gabe and Cas decide to partner up and stop her by breaking into her office and editing the autopsy report. Later, when the conversation shifts towards how humans are turned into vampires, Cas sees your excitement, and you can visit with him/her and Gabe the turning chamber. There, you learn more about the process, and can share an intimate moment with Cas. After you are grounded by your mother, Cas helps you sneak away to a wrestling ring, where you can fight a couple of vampires from another coven.
Upon discovering the bodies of the Venandis in the woods, you, Gabe, and Cas vow to work together and save the town. While being outside of the ley lines, you have several chances to get closer to Cas, and once you return to Crimson Beech and the battle with the Creator and his minions begins, you can express your feelings to him/her. You then sacrifice yourself to kill the Creator, and because Gabe and Cas don't want to lose you, they decide to turn you. If you told Cas that you love him/her before your death, he/she tells you she feels the same way.
If you tell Gabe and Cas that you want to with both of them, both are not happy with your choice but try to accept it. However, both of them are usually jealous in Book 2 if you choose to flirt with the respective other person. As both Cas and Gabe are unsure who bit you last, you are put into both covens to train with them, with Cas being appointed your Venandi mentor. Shortly afterwards, Cas gets a paper cut by a card handed out by Lennox and starts to withdraw from you. He/She opens up a little after being confronted by you in Chapter 7 and can tell you the story of how Denise gained and lost his/her trust by befriending him/her and then stealing his/her book despite knowing about its emotional significance. However, Cas goes back to withdrawing from you and you don't see him/her for three days, worrying because your messages are no longer delivered to his/her phone. The following chapter, Cas comes to your room, telling you he/she tried to avoid you but couldn't. Cas then brings you to his/her childhood home and tells you more about how his/her life as foster child affected Cas. Cas reveals that as a human, he/she felt scared and weak and that as a vampire, he/she always put him-/herself first - until he/she met you: "You ruined everything by making me want to put someone else first. By making me care about you." After that reveal, you kiss him/her and can then sleep with him/her for the first time.
Gabe Adalhard
Gabe and Cas have a strong dislike for each other. This most likely stems from their polar opposite personalities, as well as from the fact that they belong in different clans. Cas believes that Gabe's attitude is annoying and pretentious, given that Gabe has a secret he/she hasn't told you yet. Once Gabe's secret comes to light, Cas stops Gabe from attacking you in his/her feral state. Gabe eventually thanks Cas for intervening during the fight in the gym, and after they calm down, they realize that they both care for you.
The two eventually team up and help you sabotage your mother's autopsy report, and when the Venandis are found dead, they decide to put aside their differences and work together to save Crimson Beech. Despite some intense arguments that occur between them during the trip outside of the lay lines, Gabe and Cas stay focused on their goal, and even seem to get closer. The two also come together when you sacrifice yourself to kill the Creator, and decide to turn you because they cannot bear the thought of losing you. In the end, you can joke about how the two work well together, or that they have finally become friends.
In Book 2, Chapter 4, it is revealed that Cas has been a vampire before Gabe was turned, as he/she met Gabe as a human.
Seth
Cas is Seth's friend and mentor. In Chapter 7, it is revealed that Cas is covering up for Seth, and that the human that he/she was seen hunting and killing was in fact killed by Seth as well. The reason he/she took the blame for it was because he/she knew that the Covens would have done a lot worse to Seth if they thought he couldn't be controlled. As Seth's mentor, Cas says Seth's victories are his/hers as well, just as his failures are.
Terri
Unlike Gabe, Terri doesn't meet Cas until very late. You can however, tell her that you are interested in Cas early, and that underneath that bad boy/girl exterior he/she has many layers. Eventually, Cas and Terri meet for the first time in Chapter 9 in the alleyway outside the wrestling ring. Their introduction is not a pleasant one, as Terri blames him/her for leading you into a sketchy alleyway and for helping you sneak out of the house when you're grounded. What's more, she believes that ever since you and her moved here, all Cas did was corrupt you, and she even goes as far as to suggest that Cas might be involved with the first murder in the woods.
Astoria Yao
Cas belongs to the Venandi Coven, which is Astoria's clan. Not much is known about their relationship, but they seem to share similar mentalities when it comes to vampires and humans. What's more, Cas is very loyal to Astoria despite angering her sometimes with his/her attitude and behavior. Astoria on the other hand is very protective of Cas and the rest of the members of her coven.
Powers and Abilities
- Supernatural Strength: Vampires are stronger than most humans.
- Supernatural Agility: In Book 2, Chapter 5, it is mentioned that you also have supernatural agility as a vampire. Agility includes flexibility, balance, bodily coordination, and endurance.[2]
- Enhanced Speed and Reflexes: Vampires travel faster than humans and have to walk intentionally slower to appear human as mentioned during your training in Book 2.
- Ley Lines: Ley lines are underground sources of energy that vampires can utilize. They give vampires the ability to be resilient to sunlight.
- Immortality: In Book 1, Chapter 16, Cas states that since the first meeting with MC he/she technically hasn't aged a second, confirming that vampires don't age.
- Healing Factor: Vampires heal faster than humans, especially if they drink blood.
- Heightened Senses/Night Vision: Vampire senses are enhanced which includes augmented sight, hearing, and Night Vision. Vampires can track scents over miles away and distinguish between vampires and humans by their smell over a similar distance.
- Conversion: Vampires are able to turn a human into one of their own by injecting venom.
- Weather Manipulation: In Book 2, Chapter 10, it is revealed that Cas can control the weather after he/she earned a paper cut from Lennox's silver card. The more Cas tries to bottle up his/her feelings, the more the weather reacts with storm, rain, and thunder.
- Ever since gaining the paper cut, he/she can also feel the energy of nature around him/her, make trees bend their branches by touching them, and can make flowers grow out of nowhere.
Weaknesses
- Aversion to Silver: Silver can burn vampires. Several vampire-hunting talismans use silver as a ward against vampires, and specifically prepared silver can paralyze them.
- Decapitation: Dismembering or manually removing the head of a vampire will result in instant and permanent death.
- Sunlight: Originally, vampires found sunlight to be debilitating and were greatly weakened under its gaze. This changed when vampires found ley lines of power that nullified this weakness.
- Ley Lines: While the ley lines nullify the weaknesses vampires have to the sun, this is dependent upon contact with the ley line and if the vampire leaves Crimson Beech, they will swiftly lose this power.
- Vampire Blood: Vampire blood is poisonous to other vampires. Even a drop or two is enough to make a vampire ill.
- Bloodlust: When vampires do not regularly feed, they are in danger of turning "feral", unable to reason with or talk to until the thirst for blood is quenched.

Trivia
- A male version of Cas is shown on the covers of Immortal Desires, Book 1 and Immortal Desires, Book 2.
- As with all vampires in this genre, Cas is weak to silver, and even a simple touch of it will cause pain.
- During a premium flashback to Cas's human life in Book 2, Chapter 7, Denise tells Cas to "take a chill pill". This term was popularized in the early '80s with the growing recognition of ADHD and the development of medication to treat it. Given that the scene takes place during Cas's senior year of high school, this could imply that he/she was born in the '60s or '70s.
- There appears to be some inconsistency in both writing and background art in the scenes concerning Cas's background. In a premium scene of Book 2, Chapter 7, Cas tells you he/she moved to a new town in his/her senior year of high school which is revealed to be Crimson Beech via Denise's dialogue. Nothing indicates in this chapter that Cas has ever lived in Crimson Beech before. However, the following chapter establishes in the main path that his/her childhood home is located in Crimson Beech. Cas also mentions not remembering his/her parents but at the same time remembers wanting to be a superhero while still living with them. The room that Cas lived in in his/her senior has the same layout and decorations as his/her run down bedroom in his/her childhood home.

Your Character: You're a Venandi, right? Cas: And damn proud of it. While the Clements like to pretend they're human, we actually make use of all our cool vampire abilities. |
