Relationships

Your Character

Alhough the reception between Captain and you is initially cold, he/she later becomes a trusted ally, supporting you in your research goals, and protecting you from the various hazards on Moku Island.

Throughout your adventure with Captain on the island, it is your choice to flirt with Captain and/or grow your bond with him/her. Whatever you choose, Captain is attracted to you and finds you stubborn and infuriating. If you decide to romance Captain, you have opportunities to kiss him/her beginning with Chapter 3 and to become intimate starting in Chapter 7. Regardless of your level of romance or intimacy, Captain turns cold towards you in Chapter 7. When confronted, Captain explains his/her loss and his/her distrust of strangers. You can reassure him/her and Captain resumes opening up towards you. In Chapter 9, you two share a kiss with as you stare up at the starry night sky.

In Chapter 11, when you two discover a laboratory base hidden in the rainforest, and meet Dr. Halani Hale and her partner Tak Yakone, you two must rely on each other to escape the scientist's unethical experiments. Captain takes a bullet to the shoulder, courtesy of Tak, to protect you, and you two jump into the ocean to get away. Later, you two sleep on tree branches, above the ground and out of view but are awaken from a volcanic earthquake.

With the knowledge that time is running out, you and Captain return to Dr. Hale and Tak's camp in an effort to distract their workers from your true goals, to reclaim Captain's boat which Tak stole. You can choose to help Captain fight against Tak's hired help or have Captain fight them alone. After you retrieve Tak's gun, you can either kill him/her yourself or throw the gun to Captain to allow him/her the closure. With your enemies dead, you two set sail away from the island, barely fleeing Moku's eruption. When the volcano has settled and you two are in calmer waters, you have the choice to end your relationship with Captain or tell him/her that your adventure was only the beginning. Regardless of your choice, Captain is respectful of your decision.

One year later, you return to the island in the South Pacific, having written and published your findings on Moku. You meet Captain again and if you chose to continue your relationship, you exchange words of love and kiss.

Tak Yakone

Tak Yakone and Captain were business partners in a cargo shipping venture a couple of years ago. While Captain was new to the business world, Tak said he/she had worked for a shipping company in the Caribbean, where he/she had built up a contact list. Tak convinced Captain to make them partners of Captain's cargo shipping business and share in the profits.

They worked well together, and it wasn't long until they became closer than siblings. There was even a point where Captain's parents invited Tak over for dinner all the time. However, Captain later realized that Tak was using the business to smuggle drugs and weapons. In hindsight, Captain said there had been signs but he/she had been so happy with the continuing business and the money they were making that he/she ignored the warnings. When Captain confronted Tak, Tak tried to convince Captain to join him/her. When Captain refused, they fought and Tak knocked Captain overboard, leaving him/her to drown and absconding with Captain's boat, the Whanau Ataahua, a gift of his/her grandfather. Although Captain did not see Tak for years, Tak kept an eye on his/her former business partner.

In Chapter 11, when Captain sees Tak in Dr. Hale's laboratory base's mess hall, Captain tries unsuccessfully to hurry you away. Captain introduces you to Tak, where the latter explains his/her arrangement with Dr. Hale. Tak provides security and transportation for Dr. Hale and her experiments, while she provides Tak with exotic animals to sell. Although neither Tak nor Captain understand the science behind Dr. Hale's experiments, Tak finds the agreement lucrative and tries to persuade Captain and you to work with them. When you two refuse and Dr. Hale decides to use you two as her first human guinea pigs, Captain stabs Tak in the shoulder with a steak knife while you attack or fail to attack Dr. Hale. You two escape the base into the forrest but are followed by Tak and his/her men. When you two stop along the edge of a cliff, Tak shoots Captain in the shoulder. However, Tak fails to recapture you two when you decide to jump.

In Chapter 16, as Moku erupts on the island, Captain confronts Tak aboard the Whanau Ataahua. The two of them fight, and when Tak draws a gun on Captain, they struggle against each other and topple overboard. When the gun flies out of Tak's hands, it lands in front of you and you can decide to shoot Tak yourself or throw the gun to Captain. If you choose the second, Captain shoots Tak, killing him/her.
