Bethany Truong

Bethany Truong, a character in the Kiss of Death book, is the newly-elected Mayor of New Athens. She makes her first appearance in Chapter 5, although she is mentioned for the first time in Chapter 2.

Appearance

Bethany has black hair tied into a bun, light skin, and brown eyes. She wears golden earrings, a golden necklace, and a red suit.

Personality

Bethany hates organized crime, and this is most likely because of what happened with her husband. Beckham describes her as a white knight. According to the Deputy Mayor on the other hand, Bethany wouldn't know how to handle a kindergarten graduation ceremony on her own, and she is like a dog with a bone. He also believes that Bethany doesn't care for the rest of the city as long as she takes your family down.

Background

Before coming to New Athens, Bethany was the Mayor of Lancaster, and served on the city council. A few years back there was a car bombing that killed Bethany's opponent in an upcoming mayoral race, and although her name wasn't linked with the bombing, the lead suspect was her husband.

Beckham & Zarya

Bethany was elected Mayor with your parents' support, but after announcing that she has assembled an organized task force, your parents believe that she is nothing but trouble.

Deputy Mayor

The Deputy Mayor doesn't think highly of Bethany, and he says that he's the one that does most of the heavy lifting. According to him, they get along great, and Bethany begged him to accept the position of deputy as a personal favor. Before she was elected Mayor, he was her campaign manager.

Michael Ramsgate

Michael is Bethany's ex-husband, and they were married when they were 18. Michael's criminal record was already long by then, and it included crimes such as vandalism, breaking and entering, petty theft, and loitering. His record also showed that he was arrested alongside a guy called Flynn Decker for the death of Bethany's opponent, and you mention that the Deckers are small-time outfits who specialize in smuggling, cleaning and body disposal. From that, you deduce that Michael was a high-level mobster in the Decker Family. When Michael was brought in to the Police station for questioning however, Bethany came for a surprise visit and he was let go right away. The reason that happened is because some of the evidence went missing, and you presume that Bethany was the one who stole it to free her husband. Because of that, Bethany filed for a divorce a few months later.

Her character model resembles Piper from America's Most Eligible.
She shares the same name as Bethany Fox from High School Story and Bethany Delgado from Crimes of Passion, Book 1.
Her crimes include aiding and abetting, and tampering with evidence.
In Chapter 15, she resigns and admits of her wrongdoings regarding the case with her ex-husband.
