My thesis is on the historical roots of modern inequality. The quick and dirty version is... the only way we can truly change the future is by examining the past. Well, assuming we learn something from it.
— Ayna to you[1]

Ayna, a character in the Foreign Affairs book, is Professor Masako's teaching assistant and one of your love interests. Although she is first seen in Chapter 1, her name isn't revealed until Chapter 2.

Appearance

Ayna has brown eyes, brown hair tied in a low bun, and tan skin. She wears a light pink / off-white blouse, black skirt with black belt and gold buckle, a gold necklace with a hoop, a gold bracelet, and black-framed glasses.

Personality

Ayna appears to be a cheerful and kind woman who is dedicated to her job as a TA. She is an emphatic person, always trying to understand the feelings of those around her as seen when she decided to end her class early due to lack of interest in her students and how she worked together with many hard-to-get-along people by putting herself in their shoes, as mentioned by herself in a premium scene in Chapter 3. She advises the same to your character in the same scene. She is also shown to be quite friendly and likeable as seen when she was invited to have a drink at the Soiree by Zaira and when she was chatting with the barista at the cafe in the premium scene in Chapter 3.

Relationships

Your Character

You meet Ayna in your World History class where she is the professor's teaching assistant. Unbeknownst to you, while you were building a friendship or romantic relationship with her, she was feeding information about your whereabouts to an unknown employer. She didn't think the man on the phone wanted to hurt you; he told her that he just wanted to expose you as the rich First Child of Rutherland to create a scandal. She agreed to the deal because she needed the money to pay for her father's hospital bills, and in a way, she feels that your mother is to blame for the government program -which is modeled after Rutherland's legislation- that allows them to deny applicants. The former president of Rutherland used the program as a bandaid to look like he was taking action on healthcare when he wasn't, and your mother hasn't tried to fix it.

Ayna suggested to Professor Masako that you be paired with Blaine Hayes and wouldn't allow you to trade partners for your World History project. She also gave her contact blueprints of the campus which included some of the secret tunnels that would allow them to sneak in and out of campus.

Dionne

Dionne knows Ayna from her time at Vancross Institute. At the Soiree of Nations party, Dionne persuades her to stay and asks the latter about her trip around the Mediterranean this past summer.

Arjun Seth

Arjun is Ayna's father and the reason she sold information about your whereabouts to an unknown employer. She would do anything for him, especially since he raised her after her mother died. He was diagnosed with colon cancer, stage three last year. However, because he works for the local government and she is a teacher's assistant, they don't have the funds to pay for his medical treatment. While the government has a program to pay the medical expenses for those that cannot afford them, the program has a loophole which allows them to disqualify most of the people who apply. Two months after Arjun was diagnosed, Ayna received a call from a guy offering to pay for all the expenses if she agreed to spy on you for him. She decided to take the guy up on his offer, but she did not tell her father. Arjun believes the government program is paying for his treatment. If you decide to hear Ayna out, you see that her bond with her father reminds you of the way you and your mom used to be.

If asked, he tells you a couple stories about Ayna's childhood. The first time they took Ayna trick-or-treating, she wanted to be a ladybug because they're one of the fiercest of beetles. However, her growling confused the other parents. When she was nine years old, she was convinced that the neighbor's boat came alive at night.
