According to your friends, Austin is reliable, helpful, generous, and loyal. He is also quiet and keeps to himself.
According to an overheard conversation, Austin wanted to go to college, but with his parents' death, only either himself or his younger sibling could do so. Austin chose to take over the ranch so that his younger sibling would be able to go.

Relationships
Your Character
Austin is your older brother. He doesn't have a lot of faith in you helping with the ranch due to being away at college for four years. However, in Chapter 2, you remember overhearing him talking to Kit about your parents' death and him wanting you to go to college since it's an experience he had to give up and didn't want to deprive you of it.
When his and your parents died, Austin was barely 18 years old. He inherited your parents' debt and sold his car to pay off the said debts and prove to the state that he could step up and become your legal guardian. He has always believed that you were the smarter one between the two of you and that you deserve a real chance beyond the ranch, and paying for your college education would afford you the opportunities to pursue your dreams. Since he had acted like a parent rather than a sibling since your parents' deaths, he asks you to be patient with him as he relearns how to be your brother.
Kit Jackson
Austin is Kit's best friend and the reason he/she fights his/her feelings towards you. Austin trusts Kit with his life but doesn't trust Kit to stick around forever, even if the ranch means a lot to the latter. During most of the book, Austin believes that Kit's loyalty doesn't extend to romantic relationships. Austin says Kit is a wanderer who has left many broken hearts in his/her wake.
Lucy Freeman
According to Alex, Austin was interested in Lucy. If you decide to have a drink with him and Kit, he tells you that the last time he drank from that specific bottle was the night he decided to marry Lucy. As Kit puts it, her answer was "Hell no."
Mandy Martinez
Mandy is your best friend. If you choose to tease or ask Austin about her, he appears interested in Mandy but states that the latter is too "citified" for a guy like him.
